Anyone seen one of the A.R.E. toppers with the walk in back door? I've been eyeing them for a while, but am debating on just getting a tonno-pro.

I have one and love it. I got it with the sole purpose of ease of use while hunting. I'll try to post some pics here tomorrow as long as I can make it home before dark.

Has anyone had any problems with the ARE caps that they would like to share?

The problem I have had was the bolts holding the brake lights in rubbed a hole in the weatherstripping. I have since replaced them with round headed bolts but it is still a tight fit.

I also have to come up with some idea to seal up the transition from the bedside to the cap itself. I'll try and get detailed picks of both if I can make it home before dark.

Well I didn't make it home in time. We were getting snow and I drove my Moms car to get some miles on it.
I didn't think we'd get this much. I came home and found this

even with the snow. that topper looks pretty sweet.

will the topper still open like a regular topper, or is the door the only way to get in and out of that?

It'll open like a regular topper. It has one handle for the small door and two handles plus two rubber straps for the large door. I drove it to work today so I'll get a couple pics at lunch time for this thread.

Alright here is a new pic. As good as I could do in the parking lot. I like this topper with the new truck because it is about the same height as the roof rack.

A view from straight behind. It's tough to see the third brake light here but it's there and is very bright in service.

Small door open. This door seals very well. And all door closures are adjustable.

These rubber straps are on each side and keep the door secure and sealed well.

This is the only place I need to figure out. You can see the light coming in. Once I get this sealed up I will be very happy.

Both doors open and full of gear. I needed to unload all this stuff but didn't feel like hauling it in last night in the snow.

Here you can see how it is attached, you can see the bolts I replaced for the brake light housing and you can see the knob to open the window. I was going to point out that the door handles lock onto a small flat piece just a bit below where the gas shock is mounted but it is hard to see in this picture. It almost looks like a piece of weatherstripping that is messed up.

That topper looks great, I'll have to price one out this weekend. I think it would give my truck so much more utility and wouldn't think gas mileage would be affected much. Thanks for posting all the pics!

Those with canopies/toppers/camper shells...

Just noticed I didn't mention that it is an ARE MX series cap. I can't remember the cost but it seems the door option was around $1000 extra. I also seem to remember the base MX was around $1300. I had a carpet headliner put in and a fold down front window for ease of cleaning.
