As I've stated in a different thread a while back, I'm looking at the Frontiers again, I had a 2010. My question/concern is, are the new ones 14/15's better?
I understand the coolant/transmission contamination issue has finally been resolved. But what of the rattle at cold start? & some of the other nagging issues that seem common? Since this should be the last year for this design have they finally got it nailed down as it were? Opinions, & thoughts appreciated. I want this go around to be a great & lasting one. I really like many features of the Frontiers, that's why they capture me so. I'm looking at the PRO-4X CC 4X4 or maybe a SL. Thanks in advance! ::smile::
when I test drove my '13, it felt just like my '06 Xterra.
I'm sure they have made tweaks and modifications over the years, but essentially, they are identical.
All four of my Frontiers have been a pleasure to own and drive, each year they continue to improve.
I remember your 2010 had an engine noise but think that was an oddity and not the norm. Make certain before signing on the dotted line your next one runs like a top.
None of my 6 Nissan trucks has ever left me stranded.
Good luck and post pictures as I'm sure you'll buy another one.
They are good trucks.
Are there lemons and "Friday and Monday" Frontiers out there, that I'm sure of.
Mine has cost me brakes, a battery, multiple sets of tires (thank you 6 speed MT and 4.0L) in 6 years.
Oh, and an IPDM failure just recent, fixed with a $4.40 relay shipped to my door rather than Nissan charging $300+ to replace the whole board.
Thank you CF, saved me towing and my dealership fees to diagnose then fix it.
Knowing what I know now (with no major issues) I would buy one again in a heartbeat.
I've got this truck right where I want it mod-wise and my kid is going to college so this one has to last me another 5 years or so (2006 SE CC SB with 61,000 on the ODO, just turned when I pulled in the garage today).
Just my two centavos.
im kind of in the same situation. i currently have a '13 frontier and after driving my wifes new car i have the bug. i want leather, nav, and all that. i went to a dealer nearby to see what it would cost to get in a new fully loaded pro 4x and i was shocked. they wanted 11000 on top of trade in. with the '15s out and a redesign due out in a few months i thought there would be some deals for the '14s. I scratched and clawed my way down to like 33000 out the door for the one pro 4x they had.
i ended up not doing it because at the end of the day its the same truck. i could get into a pro4x titan for a little bit more than that. i might go back in a few months when the 16s are getting close.
There has been nothing from Nissan to indicate that the redesign is happening anytime in the near future. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the new version or expect to use that as a bargaining chip. If you've heard different, please share your sources.
I've been driving frontiers since my 2000 desert runner. All have been great vehicles. Two 1st gens, three 2nd gens. The latest is my 2013 Pro-4X. It had issues (as they all did, including a tacoma I owned) with canister evap code but the local dealer is aware of it and fixed it on my last two. If I were to buy a new truck today, (I'm not but if I were) it would be another Frontier.
My local dealers are 28-29 for a '14-'15 Pro-4X CC. With Lux I am looking at 30-31 plus TT&L. Currently they are unwilling to deal much off that, add ons though are fair game (say front window tint, mats, and cleats). Not sure what they are going for in your neck of the woods.
Essentially they are the same truck. Mine is an 08, so it is a pre-facelift and lacks items like an exterior temp display, auto dimming rear view mirror, back up camera, heated seats, and navigation. All of which are now standard equipment on a '15 Pro-4X (without LUX).
I drove a few recently. They feel tighter, they possibly have a little more sound deadening. Other than that and the aforementioned options they were identical.
Don't get me wrong, they were nice, but with the '16 Taco announced I am fairly certain the Navara will receive a few tweaks and finally take it's place as the third gen Frontier in 2016.

Anyone else? btw in my looking at the 15's PRO-4X's in my region on Cars/Autotrader I've noticed that Nissan has broken away with B.F. Goodrich & has gone with Hankook tires. This is also evident on Nissan's website as their pictures have also changed. The Hankooks look more aggressive, which could be good or bad, better traction, but could be noisy. I wonder why?
We're on our third Nissan truck, a '14 SV CC 4X4. It's a little workhorse and has yet to complain. Re: our previous two Nissan trucks ('94 Hardbody and '03 Frontier), they each gave ten years of reliable service, respectively.
lol, well I haven't had a truck in about 4 years. The Fronty I had was let's say a lemon, so I got a Titan, great truck, but was a total gas hog, & was getting hard for me & my wife to get in & out of. So I now have a 2011 CR-V 4wd, it's ok, but we still really need a truck.
I would only buy a third generation if it has a diesel and then I would wait for a year or so. I have had two cars (I'm a slow learner) that were "first year of a new model" and I had a lot of teething problems with both of them. First year vehicles are often plagued with rattles and other annoyances.
Internet shopping for the truck I want has been a challenge. The closest Lava Red Pro-4X with the Lux Package is over 200 miles away. The wife wants/likes red, but I also really like Night Armor, Metallic Blue, & Graphite Blue, all are which much closer. I had this trouble with the Red Brick last time. Why our local market doesn't do more reds puzzles me.
