Hay all, here in the UK there isnt that much out there on the market with regards to sub installs for the navara/frontier, and ive been dieing to get my sub up and running. but thanks to you lot and the pictures you have listed etc... of your installs ive been able to make my own sub box etc...

the install is a Kicker L5 10 inch solo baric square sub in a custom box powered by a proplus nemsis digital amp that i will mount under my passager seat, will do that at the weekend as well as carpet the box and put in the bass controller!

Its a tight fit but the sub does clear the bottom of the seat, but i have noticed that the floor carpet is about an inch thick, so i may cut the carpet away just to lower it that little bit more!

carpet isnt the only issue. the mounts for the storage bins will prevent the box from going down much farther. also i doubt the box is large enough for that L5. they require a MIN of .66^ft. you may want to add some poly fill to help with that. hard to tell from the pic but how thick and what material is that wood?

Hay matey, the box is made from 10mm MDF, ive taken the carpet away now and cut out the mounts and it sits alot better now under the seat, as for the size of the box, i dont know the capacity of it, but i used to have the L5 in a "off the shelf" sub box in my old car, and there isnt that much difference in the capacity when u look at them and that used to kick really hard. Im not after mega bass this time, i just want a nice rummble as the standard speakers aint that gud with the bass.

What is "polly fill"?? is that like a what we call wadding?? u pack out the sub box with it???

10mm is a little thin but i dont know what kind of bracing you have inside the box. if all else fails you may need to add some supports inside the box. for that sub you should at least be at 16mm or even better 19mm. that 10 could and can destroy a box that thin so try and take it easy for a while or even add some internal support to be on the safe side. glad it sits better. yeah poly fill is nothing more than the synthetic pillow stuffing. it makes the sub think the box is bigger than it actually is.

Polyfill is a Dacron/polyester fiberfill to be exact. It fools the speaker into believing that the box is bigger than it really is. The point of it is to use it if your box was not big enough in the first place. The Polyfill absorbs the frequency waves/air movement, thereby slowing down the transfer of sound.

If you think about the amount of time it takes the sound to travel it obviously takes more time in a larger box vs. a smaller one. The polyfill delays the frequencies the speaker produces much like being in a bigger box.

There's your science lesson for the day, class dismissed, and don't forget to leave an apple on my desk please . . lol.
