Terrible gas mileage after towing?

I usually use a 1/4 tank a week. I towed a 16 foot boat Sunday with my v6 frontier and used 3/4 of a tank in one week. Why is this or was it coincidence? Anything I can do to fix this?

Well you computer needs to reset to normal engine loads. It will reset pretty quick.

My guess is the computer needs to get used to not towing again.

how far did you tow? How much fuel did you use towing? is the 3/4 tank part of that towing trip or did you refill afterwards?

I used a quarter tank to tow 15 miles or so. Then used a
Half tank during the week. Does my computer rest
On its own?

It took about 3 days for me to get back to normal mileage

If you're back to normal mileage then I wouldn't worry.

But I want to tow my boat but I want to do it in a manner where I dot use 2 times the normal gas I would

Holy Crap, you used 5 gallons (rounding down since the tank is 21.1 gal if I remember correctly) to tow 15 miles. You do realize that is 3mpg.....

I think your math may be off. Way off.

More info about your truck would be helpful. Also are you towing with the overdrive off?
