This post is a vent/discussion about a very common thing: Dents!
I just noticed a 2 feet tall dent on my passenger rear door today that was not there yesterday. I have a very good feeling that I got it at walmart yesterday. I see the scuff and the dent. I do my best to park either next to nice vehicles or away from everyone. That doesn't stop people from parking next to me though.
What get's me pissed off is that people just don't care about other people's property and now I have to pay for it. Feel free to add to this.
Does anyone know of a good diy vent removal as I'm sure you fellow frontier owners have encountered crap like this?
Not tonight. It's too dark but tomorrow I can post one. It starts slightly below the window and goes almost to the bottom of the door. The scuff mark is in the middle. It's not a very clear dent, you have to be in a position using light to see it so it's not that bad but bad enough to tick me off. I just got the truck a little over a month ago too.
Not really into getting insurance company involved due to deductible and possibility for insurance to cost more. I have been reading about pdr online and looking at some prices and am not happy with what I see.
Hopefully my personal contacts can hook me up with someone that can help.
Well it's not just Walmart. I got a scuff on my right front bumper last week. Who knows where? It's everywhere you go.
I think I just should just put cameras on my truck to catch people and report to the police.
Every colorful scuff on my sliders is a reminder that some idiot/******* trashed their car door being a moron. Feels nice... Like a clean towel fresh out of the dryer right when you get out of the shower during the winter months.
P.S. - I've never gotten a scuff on my truck body in town. But every piece of armor I've bought has had the powder coat trashed by idiot drivers before the trail could do any damage. I swear its worth it even for mall crawlers.
The potential body damage would have more than payed for every piece at least twice over in the last 2-3 years.
It was a tv show I used to watch in the 90s. Oh wait, I think they are talking about rock sliders as opposed to side steps. Carry on; enough sarcasm for the day.
^^^From that picture, it looks like a lot of doors would hit well above either your sliders or moldings.
I've gotten in the habit of avoiding parking next to anyone whenever possible.
Otherwise, I try to park next to the cleanest, best-maintained vehicle in the lot, figuring someone who cares about their own car is also more likely to respect mine.
Given a choice, I park on their right side, on the theory that every vehicle got there with a driver, but not all of them arrived with a passenger.
I feel your pain. I almost always look for a parking space at the end of a row and park as close to the curb as I can get. The people at the apartment complex I live in need to learn how to park. I get home late in the evening and usually find only one space near my bldg. left and the airheads are parked crooked and over the line on both sides. I'm sure that's where my 2 most recent dings came from. And this is a nice complex. People need to put the damn phone down and make a half-assed effort to park straight. I've gone as far as leaving notes on windshields when I've chosen to park 100 yards away because of it. Doesn't seem to do any good though. And how lazy do you have to be not to push your shopping cart to the damn rack 20 feet away instead of leaving it 6" from my vehicle! grrrrh!!! I once backed out of a space at the supermarket, not noticing someone left a cart right against my passenger door. Put a nice scuff in the paint. A year and a half ago, I went to visit my mom in the hospital. I circled the parking garage for several minutes, the only space available was next an old beat up pickup that was parked crooked with it's rear bumper over the line. I saw it at the last second and didn't really have the best angle to make the turn. (with my cc longbed) I wanted to back up and get better angle but the tailgating jerkface behind me was on my *** for the last minute. I got stressed and tried to make the turn anyway. Needless to say I put a nice little crease in the rear fender bulge. I didn't bother to let the driver of the beater pickup know what happened. From the look of his truck he'd never know the difference, and I was pissed. I'm about to have some work done with Dent Doctor to fix all the damage. I've heard they do good work and their estimate was considerably cheaper than the body shop.
Sorry dude, but after a stunt like that you don't have the right to complain about other people's parking. It doesn't matter how beat up and crappy looking a vehicle is, that doesn't give you the right to make the decision for them that they don't care about their vehicle. That makes you just as bad as the other asshats out there.
I had factory steps on mine and saw multiple people open their doors into the steps instead of my door. In 2 1/2 years of ownership I never had a single ding.
I've got factory steps but still got a few dings. First 4 months I caught some dick for short at fry's giving me my first ding, drove off as fast as he could, I chased his *** down in traffic and made sure he understood my displeasure verbally.
Sliders and steps catch most front doors but a lot of rear doors, especially on SUVs, have a big cut out for the wheel well and they hit above sliders or steps. And of course when someone backs a shopping cart into your truck with their car they tend to hit above the slider line too.
Real answer is that people suck and don't give a sh!t about anyone's property, even their own half the time
I've had to park crooked before because of others in adjacent slots, only to come back and see they left and now I'm the only crooked parker. Maybe that's happened here. NO ONE has the right to damage and leave.
And to the OP, see the insurance adjustor, don't file a claim. The adjustor knows every person in your area that has ever worked on a vehicle. He, or she, can give you good advice if you ask properly.
That's why you got the dent, the fat cows that shop at Walmart need to swing doors fully open to get in and out.
I seldom shop at Walfart, but if I do, I park in another zipcode.
Cstone / Yesterday's Radio's- Not looking to get into back and forth pettiness here. I've seen enough of that on this forum already and have so far chosen to avoid it. You do have a point. I didn't note in my post but I did look at the rusted, dented end to end chrome bumper and couldn't see any obvious damage that could have been caused by my fender. The truck had extensive rusting end to end, dented, scratched, etc. It doesn't give me the right to assume he wouldn't be upset, thought I highly doubted it. If you saw the truck in question you'd get it. I have owned beaters in the past so I wasn't judging the driver by what they drive. There were no other parking spaces avail. after much searching. I gave up and regretfully chose to park there. I was only stating what some of my "peaves" are about how many people park, without consideration to others. Got caught up in a rant thread and got carried away..Wish I hadn't seen this thread.
I don't stress small dents too much. I have plenty of off road damage to cover the parking lot dings. I view my vehicles as tools, not decoration, so a long as they are functional and well maintained I'm good. I'm not saying I don't care, but life is too short to stress over door dings.
One day my wife lost her hold on the van door the wind was gusting to over 30mph and the door positively pasted one of those concrete filled steel posts at the gas station. It never was the same, but with some pliers and touch up paint I got it back into 90% original shape and a decent color match.
lol. I thought that I was the only one that would try to park next to luxury or clean looking cars whenever possible. I actually explained that theory to my wife once. Either that or go as far away as possible.
+1 on those tailgaters when you're trying to reverse park in a crowded parking lot. Especially those that drive the small expensive sports cars that you can't see directly behind you. I've often had to give up a parking space because of them before, but sometimes just go ahead and back up.
I didn't have much luck in trying those suction cup kind of things at Harbor Freight. The dent I was trying to pull out might have been a funny shape and too deep. But the ones I tried either couldn't catch on good or would pull off before the dent came out. Someone I know said that they had a pretty good experience with something similar, but I think you twist it somehow. Like you place it on like a suction cup and then twist something on top to pull it out. Maybe try searching Amazon or online for it but based on my experience I'm not sure how good they are. The ones at Harbor Freight were less than $10 so I figured it was worth a shot.
The hospital that we have to go to has an insane parking lot as well. I actually had to use their valet parking once even though I tend to try to avoid valet parking, because know a couple of people who used to valet and heard their stories. For the emergency room parking lot, people were parked all over the yellow lanes because there were no spaces available. So would believe it if someone said there was no parking available.
In the parking lot of a supermarket at a yuppie type of shopping center, I saw someone just let the shopping cart go and roll away after loading up their minivan. I figure they thought they were too good to put the shopping cart back. But it's true that some people just don't care about others.
Two feet long sounds kind of big but hopefully it doesn't look too bad.
Other people already mentioned it but they have those mobile services that take out dents.
lol Walmart. You practically have to park here to avoid damage.
I had only 3 dings (not caused by me) in 11 years on my previous vehicle ('02 Tacoma), and every single one happened at wal-mart, even trying to be careful and park away from people.
I knew a guy in the military that actually welded railroad rails to both sides of his pickup and when the offending people opened their doors and hit those welded rails, they had major dents to their doors.
