Great info! I filed a complaint and I am going to show this to them Monday. Read if you want...
"The fuel sending unit has quit working for the second time which causes the fuel gauge to give false readings. Nissan replaced the unit when it quit at 10000 miles under warranty but, now the vehicle is out of warranty and the unit is not working again. After talking with several owners of the same vehicle I found out we are all having the same problem, going through multiple units. Nissan does seem to be fixing the problem but, just covering it up. After talking with the dealership they do not want to try to cover it, they want me to pay $400 for parts and labor which I am NOT going to do. Besides the fact that $100 for parts and $300 for labor is outrageous I am not going to replace this part just have it fail again. This part should be on a recall because it is clearly defective and not a part that should have to be replaced 2, 3, or 4 times or even at 10000 miles.

Now my problem is the truck seems to be using more gas because of this. I have been going off of the mileage because I know my vehicle will do a little over 400 miles on a tank of gas but, it left me on the side of the highway in a bad neighborhood at 11:30 at night with 352 miles showing. My girlfriend also has to drive this truck and I fear her safety when she is driving the vehicle. She could get stuck in a bad neighborhood or in Dallas, TX traffic it not easy to get to the side of the road when it runs out of gas.

Also, this problem sets off the check engine light and the vehicle inspection is out. They will not let the vehicle pass with this on."

You get 400 miles to a tank. I get generally 280. What is going on here????

I'm still trying to get Nissan to fix this issue on my '05. They required me to go back to the dealer and get another diagnosis since the original one was older than 30 days. set me back another $33 just for them to read the code and tell me what the other dealer already told me.

Anyway, I found something kind of odd. The service sheet says, "Fuel Level Sensor failure. Will need to replace sensor and seal. $250. PT# 25060-ZZ00A and 17342-EA000"

What I found odd is the part number listed for the sensor. I'm not sure if it's a typo or if they are using a new part. The part listed at Courtasy Nissan is part #25060-ZS00A"

Anyway, I have to call them with this recent diagnosis and see if they will cover it. I hope they do cover it or else I'm wasted another $33.

I have a 2006 Frontier with 28K miles, the SES light came on, PO463, I call the dealer tha I bought the truck from and he wanted $105 to verify the code and then tell me how much it would cost to fix the problem, I then called the other Nissan dealer in the neighboring city and he asked me the VIN # of the truck, looked up on the computer and he told me Nissan had a recall on this problem and it would be covered without any charges to me.

Just goes to show you that some dealers aren't reputable and you should definately avoid going back there. P0463 is a well known problem with Frontiers and any dealer that isn't up front with you about it isn't worth your time.

Glad to hear you are getting it replaced free.

TTT.

Hate to drag up this old thread, but I am new here and was directed to this link/forum from another source.

Does anyone know if Nissan ever said this was/is a manufacutures defect and cover the cost?

My 08' Crew Cab SES light come on about two weeks ago and has yet to go off. I have 51K miles on the truck and it doesn't look like it is covered under warranty.

I am thinking of taking it to Autozone first and see if they can scan the code, etc. But would like some more input on how to proceed next.

Thanks.

Go get it scanned and it may be something simple. I bought an ultra gauge and yesterday it beeped and said pending code which will turn the light on if the fault continues. I stopped the truck to check the gas cap and sure enough something as simple as the plastic tether strap on the cap was caught between it and the filler neck. After removing and reinstalling the cap, the ultra gauge remained silent and that it was done. Have you filled up near when the light went on? I burned through almost a half tank when it first started. If the light did go on and then I filled up and put the cap on correctly without even realizing what took place the light will reset after either a certain mileage or successful start and off cycles.

Yeah, the light did come on after a fill up of about 1/3 of a tank. I have checked/rechecked the gas cap and dont think that is the problem. I have been driving the truck for short distances for over a week.

I read a few post back where some filled their tank all the way up and then the light went off. What do you guys think about that?

Was the truck running while putting fuel in? Doing that or a loose cap lets air in to the tank instead of the system having a vacuum. The code will say gross leak.
Doing nothing it still should reset but if you can fill it and try that you're not losing anything as you now have a full tank. Hope it's as simple as that.
