Secondary Timing Chain/Tensioner

So I think I'm one of the names you can add to the list of people who need to have the timing chains/tensioners replaced. I've been doing some research, read the TSB and all that good stuff, I just wanna know if it's a major problem that needs be replaced asap or it can wait. The noise is quite audible at 2,000 RPMs, and it just gets louder from there. Is there anyway I can get the dealer to knock the price down? I know its about $1,500.

Also, if anyone knows a mechanic that is willing to do it in the Northern NJ area that has done it before, could ya PM me? Thanks.

I'd do it sooner rather than later. Go to a dealer and very quietly ask a tech if there is anyone who will do it on the side. He'd be very skilled at it and would end up with more money than if he was on their clock getting paid. I believe the repair is $1200-$1500.

Are you talking about the chains in your Tranny? I've replaced my belt tensioner twice now. But luckily Napa just warrantied the part so I didn't have to buy it twice. Good luck with the chains, I hope I don't have to deal with that.

No he's talking about the engine timing chains. The VQ40 uses chains instead of belts to time the cams/crankshaft.

I'm probably gonna go to the local dealer sometime soon. It's definitely out of factory warranty unfortunately. Hopefully there's something they can do.
