ScanGauge II - Heaven and hell

Hello!

My new scangauge II arrived today. Couldnt wait to have a free time to go to the garage and test it. After reading so many good comments about it, I was condemned to buy, hehehe

Very cool thing. Better than expected. BUT...

When I started driving I noticed some odd things in my frontier.

The RPM gauge (the original one) was acting strange. When the RPM was going down, instead of going down easly, the gauge just moved from the 3000 rpm to 1000 rpm in ONE step. The temperature gauge didnt move, indicating a cold engine when it was not.

Worse... making a turn, i have switched the right turn sign. TIC... no tac. No tic-tac. Just one tic. And the green arrow in the panel was kept ON. The amber lights were flashing outside, but inside the car it wasnt showing so.

Then I just inpluged the SC-II and everything was back to normal.

Whats happening?? Help!

hmmm... the "tick tack, tick tack" of the blinker is actually the relay oscilating which causes the blinking. im sort of baffled that the ambers were cycling even though it seems that they should be constantly on by the symptoms you described. unless someone has another explanation. sorry, i can't help.

hi roastbeef!

Actually, the tic tac in the 08 is electronic. There is no relay, its an solid-state blinker, so they installed an speaker that makes the tic-tac...

Its some sort of electronic malfunction. Maybe im missing something.

thanks anyway !

Hmm, I just got my scangauge two weeks ago, plugged it in and ran the set up exactly like the instructions prompted and viola! works like a charm, even setting up an x-gauge for horsepower was easy. I haven't seen any weird goings on but I will keep my eyes open. You can go to cleanmpg.com and check things out there, they wield the scangauge there like a ninja uses throwing stars, I am sure they can help you out.

My scan gauge works like a treat simple plug and play. I too have set up several x gauges and they work perfectly. You may try changing the protocol that the SGII uses to communicate with your car, but a simple full reset of the SGII would be the first thing I'd be doing though. Failing this I'd be contacting customer support for some advice.

I had a similar problem with the instrument panel indicator lights (brake, slip, dash back light, etc) cycling on/off individually and without a noticeable pattern. Also, the tachometer function would drop in & out.

This was on the first unit I received, like a day after I received it and it happened on morning startup. After searching the net, I did find a few (maybe 2 or 3) similar occurrences by others but this looks to be very rare. I contacted the seller/vender and he immediately shipped another unit and I've never had a problem since.

I'd say disconnect the unit and contact the vendor ASAP.

Note, the service & support I received was excellent.
