Road Trip in a Tacoma..

Sometimes I find myself thinking I should have bought a Tacoma over my truck but I never really spent alot of time in one. Just a quick spin and seeing them on the road. A buddy of mine has an 06 crew cab 6 speed Tacoma that we took alittle road trip in over the weekend and after spending some time in one I can judge the two alittle better. First thing is my truck makes more damn noise and rattles which is starting to drive me half crazy. I like the engine in the Frontier better. Redline is higher and it just has more power/torque (atleast it feels that way) The interior is much better in the Frontier hands down. Under the hood the Tacoma looks very simple and easy to work on, hell the oil filter is right on top. I'm 50/50 on the looks, some times I like mine better and other times I like the look of the Tacoma. Overall it is a really nice truck and I wouldn't mind having one but here are the only things that I really don't care for at all which makes me give the Frontier an 8.5 out of 10 and the Taco an 8.

The price is a good 4K more.
I don't like the bed or the plastic track system.
It don't have a boxed frame.
30K and it has drum brakes in the rear!!! Come on

all in all, i'm really glad I chose my frontier over a taco. I saved about 3 grand, and got a truck that was just as good...if not better.

I ran into a 2006 Toyota Tacoma owner one day, and asked him how he likes his truck. He called me closer to his truck, and showed me all of his stone chips. I smiled to myself. I'm glad I purchased the Frontier. This man paid top dollar for the Toyota, and is pissed.

No, I'll have to check it out and see what they have to say.

NISM0- as for stone chips, you should see the bed on my truck in front of the rear tire. I got it painted once and put a bigger piece of clear sticker over that area but it looks like hell again.

I have never really needed a 4x4 truck so I always buy 2wd's. The reason I would never buy a 2wd Tacoma is that they look so TINY! The 2wd Frontier sits way highter and actually looks like a truck. The 2wd Tacoma looks like a little toy.

My brother went with a 4x4 sr5 auto '06 taco. I feel like I'm riding in a camery when i ride in it. boring........ these are trucks not luxury cars, it should be a little rough around the edges to me.
Paint chips? If i was worried about that I would never drive my truck...
All in all I'm glad I went with my 4th Nissan. 18500 out the door, and it has done everything I have ever asked of it for the 8 months/187XX miles I have had it so far.

i like the looks of the tacoma but i just can't get used to them damn wheel wells on them, i think both gen 1 and gen 2 frontiers are a tad bit better than both gen 1 and gen 2 tacoma IMO.

IMO, the wheel well openings are what basically ruin the looks of the Tacoma for me. That was my initial dislike because of oblong shape just doesn't work (and it's funny to me that the Colorado has a similar wheel opening). Then, discovering the cheap plastic bed and rails was another HUGE minus for the Toyota. Then I drove the Tacoma, and I felt like I was wallowing down the road like a barge. The first time I drove a Frontier, I was relieved to feel a more solid ride, even if it was more...shudder...truck-like!! Hahaha! I love the steel bed and sliders, use them quite often. The only thing I truly liked about the Tacoma was the optional power plug in the bed. And that small detail was in no way going to sell me on the Toyota.
