Quick question on maintenance?

At what mileage should the power steering fluid be changed?
Thanks

I have an 07 and went to the dealer to ask about buying Nissan PS fluid. This is my first Nissan vehicle.) They don't carry any as it is just rebadged ATF. They told me to use Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF in mine which I do. Every oil change, I pump out the reservoir and refill. This gradually replaces the fluid and keeps it fresh without degradation. I have done this for years with all my vehicles (some take regular PS fluid) and I never had pump or rack/pinion problems.

PS fluid is the most overlooked fluid in a vehicle. Congrats to you for thinking about it!

I have not changed mine on most of the vehicles I've owned and never had any problems with the steering system. It doesn't normally get that dirty.

i haven't ever changed mine either but i don't think doing it every oil change interval is worth it. maybe every 75k on the extreme side of over-maintenance and maybe 100k on the "normal" side

Maybe but with a little hand pump and a bottle of ATF, it takes all of 2-3 minutes at most. VERY cheap insurance!

When I replaced the fluid in the reservoir on my Maxima, I used a fluid evacuator to remove the fluid. I replaced it with Amsoil universal ATF. That's the only vehicle I've ever done so far. It was during my 60,000 miles service.

I have read ( Do not use ATF for power steering ) ATF has some additives to help build friction in the transmission and it can be harmful to your steering system.

I've never changed power steering fluid unless I install a new pump, line, or rack on a customer vehicle. But when I do I only use " power steering fluid "

How does this tool exactly work? I assume you pump it to produce negative pressure inside the container, then you insert the suction tube into whatever liquid you are vacuuming and it will suck it up till the pressure is equalized and you can just re-pump the container if you need to remove more fluid from the vehicle?
