Question about our drivetrain 4WD D-40 relaeted

On 4WD models, does the front propeller shaft turn when in 2WD mode? I was wondering if the answer is yes, if I disconnected it in the spring, fall and summer months I might be able to free up some extra mpg? I only need 4WD for the winter months for skiing/ snowboarding etc...

yes. Front drivetrain is always turning. We dont have unlocking hubs so the front axle shafts, differential, and drive shaft are always turning

I used to own an '05 Dodge 2500 Diesel and I was pissed after I got it because the next MY 2006 somehow Dodge made a clutch that somehow disengaged the front propeller shaft in an effort to siphon any extra economy they could. Was hoping Nissan had the same technology, but I couldn't crawl or see the shaft turning and drive at the same time.

I installed free wheeling hubs in my old 4Runner so I could disengage them when I wasnt using them. To be perfectly honest i didnt notice any differance at all in economy.
Admittedly I was flogging the snot out of the old girl all the time but even when I tried on the odd occassion to be nice to it ti still mafde no differance
