No more Frontiers for HB

So I was at the beach over the Labor Day weekend and saw a very saddening sight that made me wonder "why? what was wrong?" The Huntington Beach patrol/lifeguards got rid of all their yellow frontiers and are now driving brand new maroon colored Tacomas. It seemed like a slap in the face for the Frontiers, and I do not know why they switched...Whether they were more suited for the job or not I dont know...but to me I was just curious as to why they went to tacomas from the frontiers. sucks huh?

That does suck...that doesent seem like a logical thing to do...the tacoma is no better than the frontier, and it cost more. Wonder why they would spend more, and get something that is not any better?

wonder if they are putting the yellow ones up for sale? that'd be sweet driving a yellow 2nd gen around would deff make people scratch their heads, as for the tacoma's taking their place, wait til they punch a hole in the $hitty plastic bed with their lifeguard equipment then they'll regret getting rid of the better truck.

More than likely is that the deal Nissan had with the city of Huntington ended. Toyota stepped in because their advertising budget for the Taco is higher.

As for the composite be in the Taco. This may be in the future for the Frontier. One way to improve mileage at the design level is to reduce weight. The bed is a likely candidate. And how about our tailgate? It's clearly bloated in weight.

yup but I havent heard of anyone bending a frontier tailgate while I have heard plenty about the taco (our hinges are a completely different matter).

All this 'weight reduction' crap has lead to vehicles that do not last as long and basically are crap compared to what they used to be (I'm talking longevity, not performance)

Yeah, I'll take as steel bed over composite any day of the week. And tacoma tailgates are FLIMSY
