I saw an article in the paper the other day that all LA County lifeguard vehicles were being replaced with Escape Hybrid 4X4s as part of LA County's effort to "Go Green". I can understand that, but replacing Frontiers with Tacomas? I own both, and I can't honestly say either is better. So it must have been a case of who offered them the better deal. Obviously Toyota won, be it right or wrong.

Current Mods: Flowmaster exhaust, K&N Filtercharger, Custom 3" suspension lift with 31" BFG Muds wrapped around 15" American Racing Baja rims, Pioneer AVH6600 in-dash DVD.

Future Mods: Total Chaos long-travel lift kit with coil-over conversion, Twisted Tin front and rear tube bumpers, Currie 9" rear end with gear swap (not sure what ratio yet), and...

This is what I want mine to look like when I'm finished with it (if I'm ever finished)...

Thanks GolfTango for that clarification! I should have made that a little more clear. The Manhattan and Hermosa Beach lifeguards are now using Ford Escape Hybrids. At slow cruising speed, they should just run off the batteries. But I also wonder where all the Frontiers went? They might be a nice score at a city auction, if you can find them.

Yeah Im sure a couple of you guys were correct that Toyota most likely won the bid for Lifeguard trucks in Huntington Beach and there ya have it. They were 05's anyway so maybe they just lease these things for three years and be done with them. I think they drove Jeeps, or Chevy S-10s before the frontiers...oh well.
