Nissan Motorsports Questions
I was just wondering if anyone had any insight our thoughts on why you don't see Nissan very much in any of the "major" racing series. I know back in the 70's & 80's they were very strong in IMSA prototype racing, and SCCA sports cars. I see some Z's racing smaller series, and see some of the Nissan trucks on CORR. You would think with as strong a motor as they make they would be able to be fairly competitive in series like the Nascar Nextel; Trucks or Busch series or ALMS or Grand Am series. Toyota has the Camry in Nextel, it would be kinda cool to see an Altima, especially since the new coupe is pretty much here. Or the Titan in the truck series? I was just wondering, since I enjoy watching all types of racing and have 2 Nissans in the family (Frontier and Armada). It would be cool to be able to cheer on a Nissan driver some time!!

Nissan will not enter NASCAR for it benefits the company in no form. It does not improve sales. It does not help engine development. It doesn't even help chasis tech. After the overhaul with Carlos Goshn(sp) all the uncessary fluff was weeded out, if it does not benefit the company or improve profits...then it had to go.

Guess you dont do a lot of grass roots type racing, Sentra SE-Rs of all models are very popular for autocross and track cars, 240SXs are becoming one of the top drift cars. the 350z is a very competive car in differnt levels of road racing.
but NASCAR is over rated the cars are just tubes and motors. Personally I am and will always be a road racer (right turns are a lot more fun)

I also used to not think much about Nascar either, but in Colorado, you have a pretty large Nascar fan base...even without a track or race here. We had the Denver Grand Prix disappear, and Pikes Peak Raceway went bankrupt....so I most of what I watch is on TV...which does not show much of the "grassroots" type racing you refer too. So just due to the fact that Nascar is on a lot, I have watched it a little more, and like to see folks that have migrated over to Nascar like Juan Montoya, and see how they compare. As much of me not being a huge Nascar fan, they sure seem to do well in the ratings, and I have seen some pretty exciting finishes. But, thanks for the input...and I guess the change at Nissan with Ghosn, does answer the question. I still think it would be kinda cool to watch a Titan beat out a Tundra or F150 in that truck series. |

Hakasuka GTR
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...87&q=gtr&hl=en The GTR has been banned from more races than any other car! It just dominates.

The high school I went to in Cali had a auto shop that also had a racing program, and guess what they raced...Nissan's. They have been doing it for some 17 years. Its cool because the kids are involved from the blueprints to the pit crew. There current project is a 03 350z. He, the auto shop teacher custom builds Nissan race cars to the owners spec's down to the drivers custom molded carbon fiber seat. And he also races them. Here is a site for the auto shop. It haven't been up dated in a while and not as many photos as I hoped but its nice to see high school kids getting involved with Nissan at a young age. http://www.eurekacityschools.org/ehs...orts/index.htm
