I'm gonna be ripping off my upper intake manifold at some point in the near future, and from what I've read this sounds like an excellent time to do the spark plugs. I've got 174km on my truck, and I doubt they've been looked at since she rolled off the line. I'm just wondering, for the all the people that have done the plugs the "easy" way, do I need to remove the entire manifold assembly, or can I get away with just the upper? Also wondering if anyone has seen any benefit, besides longevity, from springing for the fancy shmancy, according-to-Rock-Auto OEM Iridium Laser plugs, or if I'll be fine with the cheapo Iridiums?
Wow that's 108,000 miles. You are going to feel a huge difference in performance/MPG when you put new plugs in. I did mine at 90k miles and it was a big difference.
I've been very happy with my Denso Iridium Power plugs, OEM Iridium Laser plugs haven't heard of them? Just don't get gimmick plugs.
You only have to remove the plastic manifold. But a lot do it with it still installed, just with more extensions and flex shafts on the ratchet. http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f23/how-change-spark-plugs-2005-gen-2-frontier-40507/
I kinda figured they were gimmick plugs, at thirteen bucks a pop. But I drove a VR6 Jetta. I know all about surprise costs, I was just hoping that wouldn't be the case. Which it isn't.
As far as the IMS goes that's the whole reason for this endeavour anyway. Something about two birds and whatnot.
picklez I didn't say OEM Iridium Laser plugs where gimmicky. I was referring to E3 power plugs and 4 electrode plugs. I asked another member in a PM what he thought of the Iridium laser plugs cause he put them in 2yrs ago. Haven't got a response from him as of yet.
Yeah I read the post you linked after I posted and realized that that guy used the NGK Laser Iridiums, so I basically just put my whole foot in my mouth.
Aren't the multi point ones the best? The guy at the dealer told me if I bought them and Nismo sticker I'd be able to keep up with a GT-R
