My "Service Enginee Soon" came on!!! Help!

Hi everyone. My "service enginee soon" light came on!!! I went to the nissan dealer to get this checked last month and they charged me over one hundred dollars to look at my frontier. They said it was my timing chain belt and my fuel something something. They were charging me almost $4,000 to get it fixed. I just graduated college....so I'm poor with so many school loan. I so can not pay for that. Then I went to another auto shop...and they guys there said nothing sounds wrong or looks wrong with my enginee...but they did say something about my fuel thing. And then they re-started the alarm stuff on my truck so the "service enginee soon" light came off...but not after a month it came on again. What should I do? I have a 2005 nissan frontier. sigh....and I've still been driving around in it.

use the search function. if i recall correctly, a few members have changed that item on their own and cost under 100 bucks.

write up on how to change the fuel sending unit.
How to Replace a Fuel Level Sending Unit D40

oh and a timing chain belt is an oxymoron. our trucks have timing chains and they are not, in automotive terms considered a belt. if you needed your timing chain replaced or rather the timing chain guides that are known to wear out, your truck would be making a "whining" noise.

good luck!

You can drive on the bad fuel sending unit for a little bit but it is not something that should be neglected forever.

The timing chain is another story. If it fails, your motor is going to be screwed. There is a thread on here that goes over what needs to be replaced and how it is done.

i read the how to, and it looks like simple tools are all that's needed. ofcourse having a buddy with you to help you with the gs tank would help. in this case, knowledge would be a very very valuable tool. if you decide to tackle this on your own read up there are plenty of info laying around here or atleast you can go to a mechanic fully armed on what you want done and how to do it....

Get the code from AZ and post it. My SES light has been on for 5 years or so. FWIW.
