No knock against the Silverado; I've really been cheering for Detroit to come up with a really top-notch truck and it looks like a nice one. I do, however, have to look at this award as being rather meaningless because there was no real competition. Of the five trucks being considered, one was the Ford Explorer Sport-Trac and the other four were GMT900-based trucks from GM (Avalanche, Escalade EXT, Silverado and Sierra). Winning this award is kinda like bragging that you're the tallest pygmy...

Let's just say it WILL win. Given the motor press' prejudice for Toyota and Honda, nobody else will stand a chance. In fact, M/T has already written the Tundra victory story. <g> I was flipping through a mag on the newstand the other day and they had *another* glowing story on Ridgeline. They keep banging the drum ....

By the way, Chevy is running a 30 Minute infomercial on the Silverado, starring Howie Long and some GM guy. It's rather stilted, but on a lazy Saturday morning it's something to watch.

Notice that unless two new trucks come out at the same time (i.e. tacoma and frontier), there is virtually no competition for truck of the year. Each of the major manufacturers wins each year it comes out with a new truck. A fair way to do it would be to compete all current models against each other each year. If that were the case, I doubt an American would ever win against a Nissan or Toyota, mostly because American trucks are crap to start with.

i disagree...american trucks are just as good as their "import" cousins. but there are so many more of them out there, that even if they have the same % of problems is seems like the american trucks have more issues. also atleast with gm they buck up and fix their problems unlike nissan, its like pullin teeth to get nissan to issue a TSB...the american automakers issue one at the first glance (dont just look at the number of TSB's...look at what they are, there was one for my dads last burban that removed a loose peice of foam...thats it, just go to the dealer to have them yank on a peice of useless foam, nissan on the other hand would never fix the paint chipping on the 02-03 sentras)

I owned a 2002 Chevy Silverado 4x4 extra-cab for a short peroid .... They do make nice trucks & have been for many years.
There's some pretty stiff competiton when it comes to full-size trucks ... I myself would love to try out one of those Hemi Ram 3500's !!!

the hemi 3500 are anemic...8000lbs of truck is just too much for the hemi...however from personal experience the 5.9 cummins is a beast, even moving a 3500 megacab

Why doesn't Titan offer different suspensions like Ford and Chevy, like 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton... and then dually models?
