load limit?

I was just thinking today about the load capacity of the truck. What is the limiting factor in terms of weight carried in the bed? Is it the suspension, tires, frame, drive train? I myself can't see the drive train being the problem because we are rated to tow a whole lot more. Reason I ask is because if the tires are not the limiting factor, then I can buy a lighter duty tire for less weight. Any thoughts?

We already have P rated sedan tires, I would not buy any lighter tires if I were you. Most people go the otherway and put real truck tires on.

I would assume suspension is the biggest issue for payload limits.

Especially since the leafs are almost flat to start and after a couple of year and some off-roading, they are almost inverted.

I think the bed limit is 1250 lbs. But you can go over this amount and suffer the consequences of compriomised suspension parts.

The truck is 4400 lbs as it is. Adding 300 lbs additional should not stress the tires. "P" tires are OK; cheaper and give a better street ride. Off road is a different issue.

Bed limit on KC 6M 2x4 is 1650lbs, and I've had it there, and yeah its way down on the suspension. It also has to do with frame rigidity as well as axle strength. We have fairly down angled axles (the tubes are angled down slightly) comparatively to handle the weight so they would probably be ok. However, the tires are only rated I think for only 2500lbs each. put a ton (literally) in the back and your going to start stressing them. Its actually handles the full rated load very well, drives well, still accelerates and brakes decent, and is not on the bump stops. and yes we weighed it.

a lot of it comes down to the countries rules. eg in the UK its 1000kg but in NZ (and US) its less.
i think some of it depends on if they include passengers, fuel etc. every contry has it s own system, just like your guys werid towing rules.

the tow rating is not 6#00 lbs on the hitch, that's just how much it can pull laterally safely. tongue weight is supposed to be somewhere in the are of 800 lbs iirc
