I had 16 concrete deck blocks in the back, each weighed around 100 lbs. With about 1600 lbs in the back, the truck was squatting pretty good, almost at the suspension stops. It drove perfectly fine, so I'd think with helper springs you could carry quite a bit more.

so the general consensus here is that its the springs that are keeping the weight to a certain limit.

no.

springs are easily fixed to suit the weight. the real limit is the chassis. to much weight and you start cracking the chassis. for eg later nissan patrols have been having that problem (i suspect nissan fitted a lighter chassis in th later models).

oohhh so I was under the impression that we were using the titan frame or something like that which should be able to take the added weight. So that was all marketing b.s.?

We use a shortened version of the titan frame, but it might be thinner gauge steel, who knows.

I hope you did read all the posts in this thread carefully. What are you trying to do? If you carry a 2 ton load once or twice it probably wont hurt anything, but if you are even thinking of doing it on a regular basis, you are driving the wrong vehicle.

its depends on what exactly they have done. it may be a cut down titan chassi or one simply based on the design. its common these days to cut down anything and everything to gain a performance and economy edge.

also don't forget type of road (or lack of road), load distribution, plus driving style has a huge impact on physical limits of the vehicle.
double cabs are really bad for having a lot of weight simply because the weight on the deck is placed past the rear axle.

edit: D22 in my advatar has excess of 2000lbs on the back of it but because of where it sits the vechile handles it fine.
