It looks like you may have over torqued the bolts, squashing the gaskets. Also, it appears like you tightened 1 side (the squashed side) more then the other side (the good side).

It only looks like the damage is only on one side in the pic, but it is on both sides. Over torque? wouldn't the gaskets just smash down flat in that case? I don't think they would come apart. Are the gaskets supposed to be that hard and brittle?

well, not sure what to say except you kinda have me skeptical about installing this now. ive had mine for weeks and havent installed it cause i havent had the time. what i would like to see is someone else who has had this ims on for sometime now and take it off to see what their gaskets look like?????????(i might even send someone 20 bucks or so just to get someone to remove theirs and take pics of after some use/miles on the ims, not to sure about this ims now until i see someone else's use/gaskets or until someone can determine the cause of the OP's problem) cause now im not sure i want to install this without knowing what has caused this problem.

oh and another thing--------are these bolts to reinstall the ims supposed to be torqued? at spec lbs?
as far as im concerned you just tightened evenly in criss cross manner, since i never saw will in instructions or anywhere else ever mention torquing these bolts.

i just dont see tightening too much the cause if the gaskets were installed right.

I would add that it is entirely possible that the gasket sent with your kit was simply bad. I see OEM parts all day long and also see TON's of stuff go right into the garbage. This could be one that slipped through the cracks.

I'm not worried about mine. I pushed the gaskets in to the point were the IMS is flush with the gasket lip. I had to use lube and a credit card (to knock in the edges) to make sure it was 100% seated. I have to say installing the gaskets was very time consuming. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to re-check the hold down bolts now that I think about it.
