How much will i have to trim and what!?

Ladys and Gents,

Wheels and tires are arriving today from DTD!!! Time for some wheeeelin...I currently have a 07 le cc lb with a 2.5 1.5 ready lift with the mudflaps off and the front bumper valence removed. The tiers and wheels i have coming are 285 75 16 grabber at2s on level 8 guardians--8.5 x 16 with a 5.5 inch backspacing...I know it is not an exact science, but im just psyched up and wanna talk about it. What do YOU think I'm going to have to trim to avoid any rubbing...not looking for anything exact. Just interested in what You think. Any ideas for my next mods that are simple and inexpensive.

I would tell you... read. When i'm looking for something on "tire/wheels" section, I'm always bugged on that kind of threads. Take time to read there, you will certainly find what you'r looking for.

And from what I know, with that lift, put tire there and see.

You will have to pull the fender liners off and take a dremel/grinder/sawzall to your body.

I used a dremel on mine, and only needed to trim a very small amount (could have gotten away with no trimming, but I didn't even want the slightest bit of rubbing.) This is the bottom rear corner of the fender with the fender liner pulled away.

After you trim as much as you need to, remember to hit the exposed metal where you cut with some paint (I used clear). It doesn't have to be pretty because the fender liner is going to cover it. After you trim and touch up the body, remount the liner and get yourself a heat gun. I heated small areas of the liner at a time, being sure not to over-heat the plastic. Use a smooth metal object to push in the heated fender liner back to gain clearance (I used different sized sockets). I used a sponge in some ice water to cool the plastic while pushing it back into the position I wanted to speed up the process (otherwise you may have to hold the liner back for awhile while it cools to hold it's new position.

If you go look at the fender liner in the bottom rear of the front fender, you will see a square nose portion. That is the portion molded around the corner of the body I trimmed off, and is the most common place to rub. Considering you went with slightly shorter (but wider) 285 tires on a rim that sticks them out further than OEM wheels, be prepared to trim quite a bit more than I did. To be most efficient, check your clearance before hand and do your best at determining where and how much to trim. It's no fun if you trim too little the first go around and have to do it all over again.

That is the bottom of the front fender, directly behind where the tire would be. That exact portion of the body is normally covered by the fender liner and mud flap. That white circle (plastic insert) on the body you see there is where the mud flap screw threads in from underneath.

The idea is to pull the fender liner away from that corner, trim the body some to gain clearance, then heat and re-mold the fender liner to the newly trimmed body.

Maybe you should have stuck with 265/75r16 on stock wheels?

why do you say that? I am not complaining, just trying to figure out what to be prepared for.

Put the tires on and turn to wear it rubs. mark that area with a sharpie for reference and pull the tire back off. pull the inner fender well liner out and go to town. most likely you'll have to trim the body seam directly behind the tire a bit(that's what the pic from 05 Fronty is showing). once you get that trimmed you can heat gun the liner or cut out the sharpie area and re-fit the tires to check for clearance. repeat as necessary
