Your best bet would be to buy a cheap OBD II scanner on Ebay for like $20-30. That way you can pull the code and then it resets it. That way if (when) it happens again you will have it on hand. It is well worth the money. Search for "CTools" OBD 2 scanner on Ebay and you will find it. That is the one I bought anyway, It was the cheapest when I bought it.

Is there any way to do it without the scanner?

If so, how?

If you are asking how it resets it. After the code is scanned, I think 4 times, it resets the code. Only if the same (or another) problem happens again that triggers a code, will your 'service engine soon' come on again. So if you don't correct whatever the problem is, you will trigger the light again on engine startup.
