I am looking at buying a 2002 V6 supercharged 4X4 auto with 133k miles on it. I looked at this truck august of 2011 and they were asking $8,999
but came down to $8,500 out the door. I didn't get the truck due to issues with my credit which is fixed now. The truck is still for sale by the same dealer
but now they are asking $7,999 for it. I know to check and make sure everything works and no leaks nothing is too damaged and check for rust.
is there anything i should look for that is specific to this year and model?
this will be my first truck and i am not familiar with 4x4 or superchargers.
i have only ever had Honda cars and Honda motorcycles.
Price seems high to me. And if the same dealer has had this on the lot for a year and a half, the price must seem high to others as well. Vehicles priced right don't tend to sit on the lot for too long, right?
I don't know what specific equipment it has, so on Edmunds TMV I added leather, automatic, short bed, sunroof, and all options. Clean condition. $5600 is their guess. On ebay, a black one with less miles only got bidding to $6600.
I've bought a few used cars and my advice is to always take it to a mechanic you trust. Most Nissan dealerships charge $79 for the 20 - 50 point inspection that they do for FREE with their $29 oil change. So at minimum, take it in.
I believe these are known for knock sensors being bad.
Please don't take this wrong but ifyou're going to take a loan and have a payment on a 11 year old truck, what happens when it requires expensive repairs? I think the truck is sitting for another reason, lookers find it not in good enough shape to buy. If you can go for it see if you'd be better off finding a newer less miles Frontier and in the end saviung money. Not sure about where you're borrowing from but most lenders require collision coverage and that's a cost piled on this as well. Good luck.

Even with excellant credit you are going to have trouble finding a lender to give you a loan on a truck that old. And if you do find one the interest will be extreamly high due to the fact that it is so old and a huge risk to them. If you are considering this truck and a loan because it is at one of those buy here pay here places, think really long and hard about getting into that game. They will come and get your truck at the drop of a hat if you are even one second late on a payment.
I say, if you have you credit fixed to the point that you can get a loan, you need to go to a reputable dealer and look at either a new or fairly late model used truck. You will get better interest on a new purchase then a used and Nissan is offering some good rebates on a truck that they want to get off the lots right now with the new model years coming soon. By the way, no real dealer will have an 11 year old vehicle on the lot, those instantly go to auction for your fly by night buy here pay here outfits. They likely got that truck for less then a couple thousand dollars.

Yup - as stated above!
I had a friend that got into the Buy Here/Finance Here and his payments were more than what I had thru a "US Bank" Auto Loan (Which are appx. 3-3.5% now) Plus I had a more expensive and newer Pathfinder. They are scam artists. Fees etc. + extra BS!
If your not buying new your Bank will likley require that you buy a vehicle 5 years old or newer with less than 100K miles. Not exactly easy when looking for 4x4's costing less than 13K.
15K at 5 years would be less than $300.00 per mo.
Someone double check me - I dont have my AMORT calculator anymore
The only way this would be a deal is if you had cash and they took around 4 to 5 grand.. that would be pretty good for both parties involved.
Or if you can spend the bux: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1

Your advice is good but one point is, if he found a 5 year old truck and took a 4-5 year loan the truck will be needing a bit of things in the way of tires, hoses, belts brakes etc and at the end it will be 9-10 years old. My personal opinion is no more than a three year loan on a used car. Anything longer and you regret it as you're always upside down on it.
As a young man I had my share of used cars and loans and even with a three year loan I didn't like being trapped by it. I don't even like a 5 year loan on a new car to be honest.

Hey man, I agree that you should check it out in person before applying for a loan. I know my credit union gave me a loan for my frontier. 02 with 162k on it when i purchased. 2 years later I am halfway done paying it off, and have no trouble that I did not cause myself. These trucks are fantastically built. IF it feels right, do it.

i should have mentioned this when i started this thread but i am going to pay with cash
that is if the truck checks out. There is a great Nissan shop in town that is not a dealership
they are going to check it out first. if i were to get a loan which i am not i only deal with
my bank (state employees credit union) they have good rates and in the past have approved me for loans on new and used vehicles (when i had better credit) Also i am going to try to get the truck for less the 8k i know for a fact it has been there since 8/2011 but don't know how long they have had it. I test drove it then and
everything worked but i am not a professional. i was happy to find out it was still for sale but now i am curious why it hasn't sold in 17+ months. hopefully everything will work out but if not the search continues. i just want a first gen, red, 4door, 4x4, long bed frontier. i would prefer a 5speed and no supercharger
