Hopefully it's not a repost but our beloved Frontier has been up'd one by GM

That's right, 2009 Colorado is officially available with a segment stomping 5.3L V8 and 300 hp/ 320 ft/lbs of torque! An even bigger slap in the face to both our Frontiers & the Tacoma is that it even gets a respectable 15/21 mpg in 2wd guise and 14/19 with 4WD. Lets discuss..... I personally think the Colorado is way below the Frontier & Tacoma in terms of quality & refinement but 300 hp & 320 ft/lbs of torque could be enough for me to swap my Frontier for one, the deal breaker is I need a full sized bed and those trucks don't offer that.

More info here to prove it....

Yeah I know they suck but you have to admit a V8 in a small pickup would be extremely fun. Like I said if they offered a crew w/ 6ft box they would have my business. I'm not a brand loyal guy at all, I go through a new truck every two-three years as I put about 30K miles a year on them. I'm a year into my Frontier which put's me inline for a new one in about a year if Nissan doesn't offer a 5.6L Frontier which my guts says they will since they will have a crap load of them laying around since they are letting Dodge stuff the next Titan with the 5.7 Hemi I bet will see a V8 Frontier sooner than later.

this is not new info. They were talking about it like 9 months ago. I'm surprised they did it under currently economy conditions.

The funny part is that you can't compare this to a Frontier or Tacoma anymore. Once they need to upgrade to a v8 to compete with the v6, they already lost. It is just the fact that chevy is a sore loser and needs to drop in a v8 to compete.

I assume the mpg is due to it being a flex engine (4-6-8 selective cylinders)?

Even with a V8, it's still a Colorado.

Edit:

Oddly enough, someone posted this on TN with almost the exact same message body, except saying he had a Taco. He's also from Folsom, CA. You two the same guy?

Inside is complete crap.... Cheap and small in all regards. No thanks, I'll pass for the Frontier any day over a GM product that is 10 years too late. 4.0 is just fine in all regards, except HP/TQ. I'll wave as I pass them at the pumps, or broken down on the side of the road humming the bars to "Like a Rock...." The transmission is a a bit dated well in their configuration.......

The pricing in their comparisons is way wrong as well for the competition.... Guess they have to dump them some how.

I'll take my 4 year old 2k5 LE 4x4 any day over the Colorado.
