Thnks for the info NISLO. I understood exactly what you were writing. They need the truck for another day now so it is almost a week that they have had it. Here's hoping that my baby comes back alright! Too bad you are not in San Diego to fix this issue for me!

Best of luck mercadorj. Interestingly enough, I just called the dealership and MY truck will not be ready on time. Hope its just a parts backorder or something. I have an unhealthy affection for my truck and couldnt stand any major issues.

so is the chain guide problem a similar sound to the belt tensioner sound?

Dropping my son off today, I noticed a kind of whining sound as I walked by the front end (yeah, I left it running specifically so I could listen to it). My son's sitter is only half a mile form my house so the truck was still cold.

It's nothing loud, certainly nothing I can hear in the cab.

The timing chain, guide, tensioner problem sounds kind of like the belt drive whine of a super-charged engine.

I am less than 100 miles form 60K. Been hearing some sounds from the engine for a couple weeks. I didn't realize this was a situation of the timing chain possibly, thought jus tthe belts. If I stop in to alert them tomorrow, even if they can't look at it, would that still work under warranty.

Stop in before 60k and talk to service manager about it. They better warranty the work if it is indeed the sec. tensioners. If they can't look at it that day ask for the service manager tell him when you come back you will be out of warranty, suggest they make a Repair Order for your truck that day and keep it open till you return.

Nislo is it possible to change just the tensioner guides before the chain hits metal to metal without removing the chains and gears?

No, you have to take the whole front of motor apart and i think the chain part numbers updated too, the guides ride on the inside of the chain which in my oppion is the wrong side, its the side that has all the teeth on it so the teeth just cut through the plastic.

The reason why the Primary chain ten. never wears out is that it rids on the smooth side og the chain.....lok at my pics in first post

Engine is warr. til 60, 000 i thought so u should be good. About $2000, give or take a few hundred depending on the dealership. I did it myself and parts were about $300.00.
