so, i have an 09............do i need to worry ????????????
rear ? timing ? radiator ?
torsion tube weld ?????????????????????????????????
why do i find myself scratching my head on getting rid of my wrangler.................eh
*sigh*
I know thread is a bit scary. However, while there is no denying this issue exists, it's pretty widely scattered. There are many on this board that have 100k+ on their 05's and 06's than have never heard a peep from the motor. Asides from that, a friend of mine I just found out has been a service manager at a Nissan dealership in MA, and he has told me that they have had to do very few of these repairs. less than 3 a month, and that includes all VQ40's (pathfinders, exterras and frontiers) Relatively speaking that is very few vehicles compared to what has been sold.
So I wouldn't be too worried about it - It's no different than any other vehicle - they all have there issues.
As for the radiator issues, thats an 05 thing... I don't think many others have had problems at all. Torsion tube weld? These trucks don't have torsion tubes... Rear end issues are axel seals (easily fixed there is a howto on this) and the 05's with the lesser spider gears..
i received a letter in the mail regarding a possible faulty torsion tube weld.... i posted a thread on it and it got many replies...... i'm not hi jacking the thread....
thanks for talking me off the ledge...ahahahhaa

A little off topic, but someone mentioned rear end problems. From what I've read it seems that its mainly the M226 axle that has the issues vs the C200. Is this correct?
Wow, new member, just finished reading all 35 pages of this thread and if I got one thing out of this issue its that Nissan is a pretty fantastic company. I dont own a Nissan, never have, but a Frontier is likely going to be my next purchase. Of the hundreds of posts, only a handful mentioned not having the problem taken care of for free, either under warranty of not. Those not receiving free repair were mostly out of warranty and the dealer probably had $$$ other motives. Actually, the vast majority of posts here were to say yeah, ive got this crummy problem, took it to the dealer, maybe they said yeah, well fix it or no, nothing wrong. The no nothing wrong crowd still seems to have gotten it fixed at either another dealer or with a little persistence. So, although its ridiculous that Nissan manufactured who knows how many thousand engines from 2005-2009 in several different vehicles all with the same problem that they knew about, they fixed it, for free, under their warranty and sometimes even not under warranty. Now, for 2010, BorgWarner finally hired someone with a GED to really figure out why their chains suck so problem solved? Eh, maybe, maybe not, maybe when I buy my Pro-4x the tranny will explode on the way out of the lot or battery will spontaneously combust or ill leave my rear axle in my driveway...Im pretty sure that as long as one of these things happens in the first 60k I should be good to go no prob. Great thread by the way, you can learn a lot in 35 pages!!
Yea, there is only a few people that have had the issue outside of warranty and had to pay out of pocket. One fixed on his own and another just paid out of pocket, but with the revised TSB labor is down considerable and it was around $1200 or so.
Good luck on your search. If you are still in reasearch mode check out Xterra's on thenewx.com. As you know, powertrain and electronics are the same so it can give you that much more info on this current platform. I do find it weird as folks over there are not as familiar with the timing chain issues as we are. I actually cut and pasted a copy of the current TSB over there a month or so after it came out here. Xterra owner seemed to wonder what all the fuss was.

I just laid out $1420.00 to replace my timing chain guides and I am angry.
The link below is to a lawyer who is heading up a class action lawsuit regarding the transmission failures we are all hearing about. He has also expressed an interest in adding the timing chain guide failure as a sub group to the above mentioned lawsuit. Please, anyone who has had timing chain guide problems or tranny problems, contact him.
I know class action lawsuits work because I just got a letter from Nissan doubling the warranty on my 2007 Murano CVT tranny. They will also reminburse repair costs.
