24k miles and already a new timing chain and all? sounds like nissan needs to make their timing chains a bit betterm either that or go back to a timing belt.
what are symptoms of the timing chain issue? do you hear it out side of the truck or windows can be up and you can hear it while driving in each gear??
Yes, you can hear the whine with the windows closed. It fluctuates with the engine speed through the grears and makes it sound like you have a supercharger under the hood.

Nissan does not care about it's customers or quality after your standard warranty is up. You should strongly consider this if you plan on purchasing a Nissan.
Its covered under powertrain and most extended warranties offered by nissan.
I have not heard of the repair being performed any where else but the dealer.
Ballon78 is the only owner I have heard of that did the repair themselves. I am certain he is or was a mechanic or at least done major repairs before. Most shops will turn down this job and tell you they don't have the resources or "proper tools" to do it. There really is no special tools required, but they would need the Service Manual. To be honest you are better off going to the dealer. I almost guarantee that I would charge less than another garage. Nissan techs that have done the repair would not be crazy with the labor time like another repair shop would be. This is due to the fact the garage never did one and will charge you a ridiculous labor ammount to be sure they come out on top if it takes em forever. Just my 2cents and I am not saying that to try and promote nissan dealers

There is a lot of value in having a tech trained by the factory that made your car fix your car....IMO. I think the techs at dealerships are generally of a higher quality than techs at independent shops (from a training standpoint to work on the specific vehicle at the store) but it is a shame that the service writers are generally lackluster and piss customers off with poor communication (with techs AND their customers)....
Most of the questions on this are starting to recycle. I'd recommend if you think you have this issue or want more info on it, read or atleast scan through the whole thread. There are numerous audio descriptions, videos, and so on on previous pages, including full photos lol.
Gen. 2 Timing Chain Tensioner Pics Click this link to get the info on what parts are changed, price, and TSB info. This is even a good spot to start getting information.
Finally, I would never take this to be fixed outside of a dealer, spend the 2k and know its done right.
