Thanks for that youtube post Dlgriffen, I had come across that before making my post. Sounded more to the tune of mine then the xterra video!

And to stay on topic i really appreciate the picks you posted of your timing chain install ballon78, Its nice to have a complete understanding of what the problem pieces look like before delving into this.

Hmmm did not know that. I guess I need to review my literature. If that SES light comes back and it's a P0455 (gross evap leak), I'll be taking it in for the TSB fix if emissions is 80k...

You might have just made my day (of course, the light's been off for a month straight now)

It covers things like cats up to 80,000 miles. The details are in the warranty booklet. It won't cover O2 sensors for that period IIRC.

Don't really want to ruin your day, but I had the same problem/code (bad VCV) which they replaced and they said it was only covered 3/36 (I just made in under the wire). So, we are on our own if it happens again.

Timing Chain Tensioners

Called my Nissan dealer, told them I had a VQ40, and think my timing chain tensioner is going bad. He told me to bring it in, and I did. He grabbed his tech that specialized in the tensioners, and started my truck up. After 3 or 4 seconds, the tech said it was the tensioner. (it had the same whine all the others do, including those video, its right on, and you might even be missing it if not paying attention.)

So they need my truck all day Monday, they have the parts stocked. Said They might need it on Tuesday for a few hours too. Guy said only a few have come in for this problem, and its not common. Not sure how much of that I believe.

I have 4,002 miles on my truck :I am kind of torqued because I read about my truck for a few weeks, I'm motor savy to a point (I could do this repair, but won't while its under warranty). Nothing on edmunds, consumer car reviews, anything that I could find as a buying tool mentioned this problem. My main reason for this truck was its reliability rating, and I walked from Toyota. Ohh well, hopefully they fix it for good, and it runs to 300k miles ++

Anyone have this issue reoccur or once its fixed, have the tensioner they fixed go bad? Anyone have a few replaced, and worried they will be screwed after the warranty is up?

*side note* I drive my truck good, only floored it pretty good a handfull of times, did an oil change on it already, thats it. Its been cold too.

Need an engine 101 lesson on the timing chain

Does the engine oil lube the timing chain? obviously it needs lube metal on metal but I am not quite sure if it's form the engine oil. I ask this because my dealer told me that I need to have the timing chain tsb performed. I run synthetic oil and I don't want them filling it with regular oil if it needs to be drained.

They actually steped up and volutered to it!!!
Im impressed!!!!
Just bring your own oil, and let them do it.

Even if that job dosent require changing it I would still rather have fresh oil in my engine after going that far into the motor.
