What is covered for the powertrain is listed in your warranty booklet. 3 years/ 36,000 miles is the basic warranty. Powertrain is 5 years/60,000 and emissions is 8 years/ 80,000 miles.

I have an '05 NISMO 4x2 with 99,000 miles and no problems here. I'm sure that the tensioners will wear out but so far (touches wood) so good. I don't know if it makes a difference but 95% of my miles are interstate and I don't tow anything, ever.

71,000 miles on my 07 LE 4wd and no problems here and trust me, I would know if my engine was making a wierd noise. I also do mostly highway miles and when it is cold in the winter, I always warm my truck up. I am also hard on the engine merging onto the highway (just can't help it). I don't tow anything and never have. I also use synthetic.
Don't know if the same or not, but it appears the similar problem with the Harley engines has been traced to the manufactur of the chain. When the parts are stamped out and the dies are dull (late in the run) there is a sharp edge left on the link. Chains made from these links cut into the plastic quicker. Some HD builders now polish the chains although most remove them and use gears - not doable on our engines. Variable symptoms seem the same for the HD and the Nissan, however. PS HD still will not warranty. Nice huh?
I own a 07 SE 4x4, right around 30000 miles after a long trip to texas from cali, i started experiencing the (sounds like im supercharged sound) , its not a whistle, its an annoying noticeable somethings wrong kinda of sound. First i thought it was just my manual gears winding down and up but i then realized it was to the tune of my RPM's. the first thing i thought in my head was "that better not be my timing chain", (this was without visiting these forums since i had bought my truck). Reading over these forums and many others, plus looking at the nissan tech bulletin website. I have little doubt that this would not be the problem im experiencing.
Ive ran my truck on fully synthetic oil mostly Mobile 1 and once royal purple at around 3500 to 4000 mile intervals.(overkill but this was my first new vehicle and my baby)
now my truck has 31500 miles and i will be taking it to the dealer this week
Im hoping they do the fix without hassle and without me presenting all this back up info that ive come across
Has anybody had to prove maintenance for warranty purposes? The reason i ask is because ive done all work on the vehicle myself and was not the best about keeping receipts. Didnt think i would have a major prob like this before warranty ran up.
BTW nice to be back at these forums just not under these circumstances
This prob has put my tacoma loving roomate on cloud 9 btw
I bought my truck used from a Toyota dealer and found that the noise it had wasn't normal and had no problem getting the warranty work done. I had no proof of previous maintenance.
Here is what mine sounded like.

I wouldn't race my engine if it sounded like that.

Thanks for posting; now we all know what sound to look out for. I wonder if the members that have had this problem had thier engines built with defective components from a bad batch from the mfg'er. This could be causing the intermittent timing chain problems that only some owners experience. Just a thought.
Stop in before 60k and talk to service manager about it. They better warranty the work if it is indeed the sec. tensioners. If they can't look at it that day ask for the service manager tell him when you come back you will be out of warranty, suggest they make a Repair Order for your truck that day and keep it open till you return.
Thanks, yeah, I had it in for an idle relearn today (which got rid of my 0507 CEL error) and they decided to take a closer lok into my specific noise. The tech says it is my oil pump, which supposedly is high volume. But since it is now on record that they looked into it, I should be good for future problems.
