06 Nismo King Cab, gas has started coming out of filler neck when filling, even at moderate filling rate. Have to fill REAL slow, which is a pain. Have used different gas stations, so it's not the pumps at the station. I'm thinking maybe an obstruction in the vent tube...anyone have similar problem?
dont know if this is the same problem but i used to have a similar problem. the pump would shut off automatically after just starting to pump gas. i dont put the gas pump handle in all the way. something about the angle of the handle doesnt seem to be the same as the filler tube.
My '09 with 32k miles on it just started doing this. I need to take it in to get it fixed under warranty. That, and that incessant squeak that i can't figure out.
My 2010 does this as well. Not only does the pump shut off, but it pukes fuel out of the filler neck as well. I have to fuel up very slowly, and keep the nozzle pulled out part way to keep it from happening. I bought the truck with 3100 miles on it and it has done it from the start.
SYMPTOM: CANNOT REFUEL/FUEL ODOR FROM THE FUEL FILLER OPENING IS STRONG

My 09 has the same problem. I don't know how many times ive had to grab paper towels and some of that window washing fluid to clean up the side of my truck. Really ticks me off.
Based on the number of people I have seen that are having the same issue, this seems to be a problem inherent in the design of the filler neck itself rather that a malfunction of any particular part. I will probably have the dealer take a look at it anyway. Definitely sucks getting gas down the side of your truck...
I have a 2010 CC, Short Bed.. i have the same problem filling up as well. when filling the tank from empty i have to use the first click on the gas pump nozzle until it has about 7-8 gallons. then after that move it up to the next click, for the rest of the tank. AT my next service i am gonna see what the dealer will do. i called when i first got the truck and they told me to pull out the nozzle a bit. that didnt make a difference. I don't have any scientific data to add, but my belief is that the more gas that is in the tank the faster you can pump.
Hate to say this but mine has done this too.
I've had this happen maybe 4-5 times since I've owned it.
Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, cold out, hot out all different conditions and variables, nothing consistent I can put my finger on.
It sucks.
Same here. I noticed it when I first bought the truck. Then it didn't happen for a while. I filled up Tuesday and it did it to me. I had to keep adjusting how I had the pump inserted and it finally decided to cooperate.
I've got the same issue on my new 2010 4x4 CC. I have to baby-sit the fueling of the first 1/3 tank, before I can engage the lock on the pump handle..it's annoying, and I'll ask the dealer about this next week on my initial service.

I have an 06 Crewcab, has had the same issue since first day off lot. I had a bath in gasoline from waste to ankle first time I filled up on the way home. I have posted the rest of what happened here before, and response from the local dealer.
This is a serious safety issue, especially with the ethanol fuels having such a low vapor point. Million wonders someone hasn't been barbecued.
If you are engaging in proper procedures while pumping fuel into your vehicle, the risks are quite low. For example, not smoking, talking on cell phone, or jumping in and out of the vehicle (potential for static discharge).
Keep in mind that at this time vehicles don't run on 100% ethanol. They run on gasoline with some ethanol mixed into it.
It is more hazardous to drive the vehicle then it is to fill it with fuel.
The only issue I have with mine is that sometime (not every time) the gas pump will only run for 2 seconds and then click off. It's almost like there is pressure tripping the pump to shut off? I'm not sure how these work? I've looked it up on line and it still doesn't make sense to me.
Yeah, Im well aware it is only 10% percent ethanol, but it still vaporizes at a very low temp.
Thats what is so volatile, and dangerous not the liquid.
All it takes is a static discharge to ignite the vapors, or some dumba** throwing a cigarette butt down on the ground.
Anytime you have gasoline spills there is a chance the fumes being heavier than air can be carried under some place it shouldnt be.
I will never "assume" gasoline as safe, I have seen too many burn victims from it.
my 08 king cab dose this as well i just keep going in and telling them ther pump did not shut off ... i get a free car wash that way it is a piss off tho ....
I never did attribute any weather condition to it myself, but I'll take it into account. This was an issue on 2009, as well as my 2011, both short bed Frontiers. I'm surprised I don't hear about this more often here. I doubt the dealership would be much help. It's like talking to a brick wall anytime I go there.
I've got the short bed CC too! 08 4wd. Bought brand new -since my last brand-new Nissan truck went 275k with NO problems and was still running strong but my needs changed from 2wd king Ka24 to Crew Cab and 4wd.
Since new, this truck is the most sensitive fuel-spilling vehicle I've ever KNOWN, much less owned. I commit myself to instilling fuel ever-so-slowly into my otherwise beloved truck. 63K of otherwise trouble-free service at about 20mpg overall, not bad for a 4500lb truck.
Maybe it really IS a short-bed issue. I see no good info on a fix. ? Inherent fuel neck filler angle on the SB?
Really, you can't put the gas hose in a turn it on -it'll click off THEN spill fuel down the side every time! I've not found a reliable "puke free" procedure, other than SLOW FILLING! The regurgitation is truly remarkable!
My '08 king cab NISMO 4x4 is doing this now too. Went at least a month sitting since the last gas station visit, I put a few gallons in from a gas can when the can sprung a leak. Now it clicks off right away. I borescoped it, NTF.
Guess I'll do the FSM procedure as posted earlier...
You're right. I looked it up. Guess I get to go to the much less reliable dealer that offers the zero deductible for my warranty coverage... Crap. Guess I'll get them to do the motor mounts while I'm at it... Last time they only had my truck 3 weeks and didn't do anything.
Decided to take my truck to a Nissan dealer and pay the deductible on my warranty. They called and said my tank had sustained impact damage and that damaged some vent valve in my tank causing the inability to fuel my truck normally at the pump. Supposedly the vent valve is not replaceable separately from the tank or serviceable.
Suggestions?
So you're saying they want to replace the tank and you think they're overcharging you for the part and labor? If that's the case search Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. Maybe find a tank local to you and install it yourself.
No, not at all. I do find it very silly to replace the tank, however, there is an evap valve of some kind IN the tank, that is part of the tank. So, what they're saying, is that went bad, and it's not serviceable, you have to replace the tank.
Hopefully I can convince my insurance that this issue is a result of getting rearended, and that they will then cover it.
I say ask them specifically what valve they're talking about the only "vent valve" related to the tank I know of is the evap vent valve and that is on top of the evap canister, easily replaceable, and could not be damaged by an impact to the tank. There certainly could be another valve but I've never heard of it.
According to their print out, there is indeed a doohickey in the tank/part of the tank inside. The tech said that's the cause. I don't know how much troubleshooting they spent on it though, being that my extended warranty company denied the claim. I guess the inspector for the warranty company saw the skid plate banged up and shot it down just on that...
