Gas gauge doesn't read empty
I have a 2008 Frontier, 21.5 gal. tank and although the gauge indicated I had approx 1/8th a tank of gas I ran out of fuel. I put 1/2 gal. in I had with me and then 21 gal. even at a station. Seems the gauge simply bottoms out showing 1/8th a tank of gas.
I have had cars/trucks that vary somewhat on their settings but never to this extent. Anyone else have this problem? Plan to call the dealer first of the week. Thanks. ARC. |

Maybe it's because I work on airplanes where the fuel quantity systems has a tolerence of accuracy I look at a vechicle's fuel gauge with a jaundiced eye.
In other words I don't let my truck get as low as an 1/8 of a tank. But that's me.

I am not sure but isn't this symptom sort of backwards to what most people have been experiencing? It is my opinion that most people have been complaining about the gauge reading low or nearly out of fuel, and they can only add 17 gals. or so.

I usually fill up at 1/4 tank or not very far under that. Whats the mileage on your truck? I too have had my sending unit replaced. Mine was between 19K and 20K. My CE light came one but my gauge was screwed up too, would take a good part of the day to go back up to full after a fill and the light would be on.

Thanks for the all the help, my truck is new, not yet 1000 miles, first time I let the tank get as low as it did. I know guages on cars/trucks aren't super accurate but 1/8th a tank seems just a little too much error.
I'll let you all know what the dealer says about it. |

I've had mine changed out 3X and I still have this problem! Since my warranty ran out I just track how many miles I have gone since last fill up. I get nervous when i'm 1/8 of a tank and always fill up. Last time I filled up I put 20.5 gallons.

I've never been able to get more than 18.5(usually on 17.5) gallons on a fill up, but I don't want to run the thing bone dry to find out just how long I can drive on E. just wait til the light comes on then fill 'er up.
