your right

Your correct it dont say on the mobil 1 bottle how long. The exstended stuff does. I run my mobil 1 about 5,000 miles, but i may try the exstended 15,000 stuff. I would try amsoil, but im just not convinced its any better than mobil 1. Mobil 1 does have a 5000 change oil, 7,500 change oil, that is a synthetic blend.

I posted this in another thread yesterday. There is a independent test done with Amsoil and Mobil 1. If you google "synthetic oil life study" it will be first on the list. Pretty detailed with all the metals and TBN, interval changes etc. They tested it on a Z28. Read the disclaimer, it is pretty funny. I think these guys are non bias on their test. Either way, you can't go wrong with either one.

i just read it

very interesting , the amsoil metal wear was less, maybe cause the car was in the breakin period with the mobil 1 in it. The thing i didnt like was the amsoil got really thick over time started at 5-30 , when the test ended it was like almost 5-50 , but i would say there very close to being the same amsoil, mobil 1, is what i thought before i even read the test. So just take your pick the one you want and stick with it.

Well, I have experience running Royal Purple, Mobil 1, and Castrol Syntec. I ran RP in my '01 Galant from day one. Literally brought it home from the dealer, put it on the lift, and changed the oil to RP. That car had over 99k on it when I traded it in for the Fronty, and the lifters clicked like a SOB. I did run extended intervals of 12k on it, and when the oil came out, it looked like brand new Mobil 1. No thick sludge, not burnt, not black. Just a nice golden color. So I attribute the clicking lifters to piss-poor Mitsubishi designs. Other than the lifters, the car ran like a champ.

My Fronty has had Mobil 1 from day one. Just like my Mitsu, I drove it home and changed the oil out for Mobil 1. No problems so far, and I change it every 5k with either a Nissan or Napa Gold filter. Currently I have about 41k on the odo.

My wife VW requires some crazy VW oil standard, that is only met by Castrol. Unless you wanna pay for Amsoil or some other ridiculously expensive Euro oils. So I use the Syntec 5w-40. Change it every 5k with either a Napa or VW filter. Car has about 96k on it, and runs like a dream.

So with that said, do I think Amsoil has a good product? For the price they better! All I can say is that from personal experience, you can't go wrong with RP, M1, or Syntec. So it's pretty much up to you how much you are willing to fork out for oil.

test

In that test they do mention ruff idoil on the engine with amsoil, also the oil getting alot thicker over time. I just dont think amsoil is all its cracked up to be.

I actually paid less for Amsoil than RP. I bought RP from Wallyworld for $6.72 a quart. I bought some Amsoil from my source for $6.49 a quart.

Exactly what I was thinking! Those who are loyal to a specific brand should stick with what they are loyal to. Synthetics are better than conventional. That is for sure!

If you dont want to pay a higher price for Amsoil or RP, then go with Castrol or Mobile 1. They are still going to be better than regular conventional oil. Whatever makes you happy is what you should get. I'm a Castrol Guy and always have been, so I will just switch to the Full Synthetic Castrol Syntec and I'm sure I will be better off.
