Extended Warranty

I am curious to know how many people bought the extended warranty that Nissan offers, or bought a warranty from another company? If you bought it, what did you pay for it. The dealership wanted to sell it for $2100. That seems like a lot. Of course if you finance it, it really costs you a lot more.

I plan on keeping my truck for 8-9 years. I didn't buy the warranty when I bought the truck. I am hoping it will be as reliable as my Hardbody was.

I get 7yr/100K coverage through my auto policy with Geico. $250 deductible and covers the same things, even a little better in some cases. I pay $25 every 6 months for this.

yeah, I just found out last year when I bought my wife's altima. funny thing was that I initially bought the extended warranty from the dealer. when I got home that night and called Geico, they said they were offering extended warrany coverage on new vehicles so i was bummed. the dealer goofed up something on the paperwork so i had to go back the next day to sign everything again, but I told the dealer to cancel the extended warranty so i was able to get the geico coverage.

I have State Farm and I don't see anything on their site about it. You lucked out on that. My wife and I bought a Prelude in 1996 and got a 7 year warranty for $700. I would be willing to pay semi-annually for a warranty that would cost less than $800. $2100 is just ridiculous. I found a site called warranty direct that has some decent prices. I just don't know anything about them.

Do you think Geico's rates are good? My wife has a 2002 RSX and her insurance is higher than mine and my truck is a 2008. I just don't see why a vehicle that is 7 years old costs more to insure than a new one. Insurance is a shady business...

Geico is awesome. I pay about $300 every six months for my Frontier and about the same for the altima. both are 07 models and that includes the $25 each for the extended warranty.

Here's the extended warranty coverage:

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance
Multi-Risk is a package of coverages that includes Comprehensive,
Collision and Mechanical Breakdown (MBI). This coverage protects you from expensive auto repair bills when your car experiences a mechanical failure. Multi-Risk is usually much more affordable than the Extended Warranty offered by your car dealership and in some instances covers more.

Varying deductibles are available for the Comprehensive and Collision portions of the package; a $250 deductible applies to the Mechanical Breakdown.

You should add Multi-Risk protection to your policy as soon after the car is purchased as possible. GEICO Multi-Risk can only be added if it is a current model year vehicle, the vehicle is less than 15 months old and the odometer reading is less than 15,000 miles, and you are the first title holder.

Multi-Risk coverage expires once the vehicle is 7 years old or reaches 100,000 miles.

I think it was 2k even, can't swear to it though... It's been a couple years. It was just a last minute thing when it was brought up at the final signing. And the insurance warranty wasn't an option.

I had actually bought it for my Altima, but I traded it in for the Frontier before the original warranty had expired so my extended warranty got carried over to the truck.

Wow, you guys are lucky!! I live in B.C. Canada and I'm paying almost $2000 a year for insurance with no extended warranty. And thats with a 43% discount for safe driving. What the hell?!
