DTE showing 0, but I have gas.

Hey all, just had a weird problem this morning. My truck showed 80km left on my dte gauge and then bang it was 0. Tried turning it off and on, still showed up 0. I have under .25 tank left on the gas gauge. Any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it?

First thing I would try is to fill it up and see if it resets.

Probably because the DTE system is utterly useless. Just go by the gauge, and fill up when you think you need to. I have driven mine til it said I had no more gas, yet was only able to put in 18 gallons. That's a pretty hefty reserve built in. Another possibility is your sending unit is stuck.

Yeah I'll be putting gas into it soon. I find the DTE is pretty good actually, it's ball park but it's not bad at all.

Sending unit, what is that?

Try doing a search on it. Other's have had the same problem and I have had that problem several times now. Hopefully it is under warranty.

I was away for 3 weeks, the truck wasn't driven, not sure why this happened. I searched but I don't see people talking about the DTE being 0 but there are tons of threads so whatever.

The DTE is just an estimate. They probably have it built in when it gets to a certain point to have it show zero. This would take away the possibility of having someone run out of gas while the DTE still showing you have time to go.

They also do this kind of thing on the 08 Avenger R/Ts.

Exactly. I have had several vehicles with this feature and ALL of them would report that I was out of gas and I could still drive another 20-40 miles.

No no, this is not normal. When the DTE gets low, under around 20 KM it blinks and I've seen it go down to under 10, then it blinks lines probably because it's too low to report but never 0.

If this is the case, it appears that you should take a trip to AutoZone and see if they can pull any codes from your ECU and then a trip to the dealer for them to fix it. Only if it is under warranty, if not then learn to deal with it, lol.

Good Luck and keep us all in the loop.
