I haven't solved this problem but think I found what it is. Under the over flow tank there is hose that I believe is connected to a aluminum pipe and it seems to be leaking at that connection. I just haven't taken the time to figure out how to get to that connection to do something about it. It is in a inaccessible spot. this just started to be an issue again so I will need to address it soon I just started running the heat I didn't drive the truck much over the summer and when I did I didn't use the heater. Look for slight traces of antifreeze on the fender under the overflow tank. use a flashlight you will most likely see a few drips sitting there. Yet me know if that is what you find. I have been keeping an eye on my coolant levels and adding a little when it needs it.

It sounds to me that you have a heater core leak. Common thought is that a heater core leak will produce coolent on the inside of your vehicle. Not the case anymore. Manufactures have installed a catch and drain under the heater cores so that you don't get that fluid all over the interior. This is why you will see the puddle under the truck around the firewall, that is where the drain goes.

Thanks for the input, I haven't had a chance to look under the over flow tank yet. I will say that I've noticed antifreeze dripping from under the front skid where the oil filter is...I guess that could be the fan blowing some fluid around after its leaked.

I know common response would be heater core but its not leaking in the cab or under the truck where the fire wall would be, unless its running down something and dripping at the front end of the truck.

The best way to find your leak is with a cooling system pressure tester. Once you pressurize the system, your leak will be much easier to locate.

coolant leak only after using the heater

I have the same issue, it's a Lil 1/2 hose maybe 3/8 hose right under my supercharger on the driver side of the motor. Replaced it, no problems..

The heater hose from the engine connects to a plastic piece right at the firewall. Mine had a crack in it and would cause a leak inside the cab and I could smell coolant. cost me 200 bucks at the dealer to fix.

sounds to me like everyone is chimming in with different cooling leak locations. one mentioned super charger as well... so im guessing first gen, which makes me think aged, dried, cracked hoses.
