Converting Driving lights to HID

Ok trendsetters
has anyone tried converting stock style driving lights to HID

reason for asking
I just scored 5 genuine KC Daylighters and am thinking they may go really well as HID. However has anyone else done this conversion to KC's ?
I already have a set of H3 55w HID globes/ballasts on the way and its a toss up between my 9" Lightforce lights or the newly aquired 6" KC's .

Yeah only thing is I have already been busted for lights on a sports bar years ago.
Under ACT rules we cant have any lights higher than 1.5m.However might have a look into motorising them so at the flick of a switch they all turn 90 deg and face eachother so in theory wouldnt be driving lights any more.
Plus wouldnt be easy mounting 4 or 5 ballasts in the sports bar .

well beleive it or not its actually a rule in the Aussie design Rules or ADR's
All the trucks cruzen round with lights on the sports bars are actually all running illegally however some states turn more of a blind eye to it than others

Someone wrote a how-to on how to do it to Hella 500's:

DIY: Converting Hella 500's to HID!!!

If I were you, I'd put the HID's in those huge Lightforce lights.

Hey Aussie, fall of the back of a truck, did they?

I converted my Cibie SC's and they work well. However they do throw an upside down horse shoe pattern which they was not visible with Halogen. It had been suggested that I try other globes like Philips.

Other than that I am impressed with the conversion.

Would be interesting to ask KC if they put a different reflector in the HID version they bring out.

BTW with H4 HID conversion, I will let you know what happens when I change the globes. I think the issue with ours is that the globes have caps and therefore the do not allow that reflector cap built in to the headlight to reflect the light correctly. I have found a set with out the cap and are about to order some.

Cheers

there isn't really much to converting is there? it would just matter if you can get the light bulbs to fit correctly, then its just mounting up the ballasts etc.

I did it to a set of Hella 500s.
As said above, there really isn't much to it.
