Exactly; aftermarket is a gamble in of itself. On the other hand, the genuine article costs $421 and you *hope* that it is actually upgraded and not some old stock they are trying to get rid of.
I plan on replacing the radiator this summer as I think an aftermarket replacement will be the cheapest alternative to any solution Nissan has/will come up with. I love this truck too much to take a chance and a have it nagging at the back of my mind for the next 40+K.
I will try to submit the claim to Nissan and see what happens. Either way, piece of mind is priceless.
I got this letter this weekend and was going to ask the same question, If I can spend a few hundred dollars to prevent my Transmission from getting damaged, I'd prefer the peace of mind also. Considering that my '05 has 90k miles, I'm getting up to that threshold also.
However, is it only the radiator that causes this and how does it actually leak into the Automatic Transmission? Should another part also be replaced?

The radiator oil cooler located in the bottom tank is the part that fails. Coolant enters the transmission from there and runs back into the transmission with the ATF.
Unfortunately I am a victim here. I went to have my transmission serviced last year only to be notified that the radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission...I can now feel a jerky shift between 1st & 2nd gear. I replaced the radiator but the life of the transmission has dramatically been reduced. I have passed 160k miles. I will submit this claim, why not? Especially if I can get anything out of it, then try and trade it in before the tranny takes a sh*t and I am coughing up 5k.

Been there, done that. I don't recall paying anything out of pocket for all of the repairs, but you can bet your butt I'll be double checking with the guys at my local dealership.
Wow! 421 for an OEM radiator?? That is a bit higher than I thought it would be. I doubt I am going to go that route on chance I get the same one I am taking out. Looks like I have a couple of months to do some serious research.
