Anyone trim factory intake to use with aftermarket intake?

Would like to use the piece with the Nissan logo with my AEM intake. Wondering if anyone trimmed it to use and if so how it turned out.

I did the opposite. I kept the stock air box and cut my K&N FIPK to meet the air box. I wanted the true cold air intake and I wanted to loose the baffles and mufflers in the stock intake. In theory you should be able to adapt between the two also.

I did.The truck is not here so I have not fitted it as of yet. Don't see a problem, though.
I am also using the stock air box with a nano fiber air filter. I blocked off the cold air intake since running silt beds will plug the filter in a minute.
I will be attaching a louvered piece of stainless to cover the intake hole and additional hole.

If I'm seeing this correctly, you just upgraded the tube part and air filter, right?

I would not call it an upgrade. Probably won't do anything.Just got bored and was something I could start while I was pretty much stuck in bed.
I had to cut the tube on the stock intake to fit on the new tube.

I was actually thinking of doing that too, I'd call it an upgrade since it's better than stock

Did you notice any differences/improvements?

That would be nice if if did improve performance but who knows. I think it looks better than stock so maybe it would be an upgrade in the looks department.

I think it struck a middle ground between the stock setup and the FIPK. There is more intake sound than stock, but not as much as the K&N. The stock Frontier uses the same filter as the Titan, just in a slightly different filter box. (I have heard that the Titan's uses a larger diameter tube to the fender.) I feel like the stock box provides more than enough airflow for my needs. K&N claimed more airflow in their tube, because of its shape.

Really, I like the idea of the full intake, but I don't like the idea of it pulling air from the engine bay. I had the K&N intake on for a year and swapped back to the stock intake for this reason.

I had both intakes on hand, so it didn't really cost me anything. I don't remember noticing any real performance difference. I do a lot of hiway towing and it may have helped at WOT, going uphill with the trailer. Besides that, just peace of mind that I was getting air from outside of the engine compartment.

The reason I blocked off the cai is during the 1000 The filter became totally plugged. It was so bad it deformed the filter. With the intake open at the inner fender well, the tires fed the silt in.
