I've been trying to find a neat place to store a truck shotgun (legally and up to code). I was going to manufacture something but decided to just replace my Jack with something more fun. It seriously fits perfectly.
I just throw my 870 behind the seats when I want it.
I know the law is super unclear, but I would think that if you leave a gun in your truck full time, it is in storage and has to be treated as such, ie. trigger locked.
Yup. If you aren't in 'care and attention', then it needs a trigger lock (or bolt removed if a rifle). I've never seen a need for a single shot shotgun. When hunting, I have my semi-auto 20 gauge at the ready as well as my 7mm MAG = problems solved.
There's even enough space behind the seat to keep it in a soft padded case, provided you don't have any accessories on the rifle that add a lot of thickness.
I've even been considering re-locating the back seat latch releases to someplace hidden, to provide some extra theft protection.
My ar just has a red dot on it. I have a rail on the front site for a light, but don't usually have it on there outside the house.
Its in a soft case, extra mags, gloves, tools, etc.
I did exactly this in my KC. Only difference is my truck gun is an ancient sawed off side by side. Fits like a charm. I slapped a trigger lock on and keep a box of shells locked in the glove box.
