2004 Fronty,fresh ECM.Good deal?
Hi
If this Is posted in the wrong spot, I sincerely apologize, feel free to move it to the appropriate place. I have recently been offered a 2004, Crew cab, 4x4, supercharged Frontier. The Vehicle has 38,000 kms, just had the ECM replaced. Current owner has had no issues since, but is now too busy driving his Titan to keep his frontier. I've seen the vehicle on a hoist in a mechanics shop, no noticable leaks, worn out parts, haven't taken it on a test drive yet, though. I am wondering what I need to look out for, goods and bads about these trucks, any unique falts with the supercharged model, suspension or 4x4 system. Any recall notices or TSBs I should have checked out before I test drive this sucker. His asking price is $18,000 Cdn A bit of background on me 19 years old, have worked as a car audio installer, a heavy duty mechanic for John Deere, and I am now apprenticing as and autobody technician (bodyman) I have been turning wrenches since before I can remember. My never ending project is a 1991 Nissan Skyline GTS-T Type M coupe (god bless the Canadian 15 yr rule! ), I have rebuilt the factory RB20det once, the trans once, minor mods, nothing worth bragging home about. Am in deep search of an RB26 in running condition, to start building to swap into my '32. I need a daily driver while this car goes away for the "work" I have planned. I have been addicted to drifting, rally, Baja and pretty much any kind of racing since I was 14 just starting to get into mechanics. I was initially looking into a Titan crew 4x4 before I was told about this truck. I thought the deal was too good to pass up.Feel free to tell me the goods, bads, and if I should just steer clear of this truck or not. Sorry for the rambling. Thanks for your time! waldo Last edited by Waldo : 07-19-2008 at 01:05 AM. |

18k is a little steep, is this truck fully loaded? leather or anything? only thing i hear about the these vg engines are the K/S going bad all the time, other than that nothing to worry about, the 03 and 04 models have the redesigned manifold so the stock ones shouldn't give you any problems, a few bolt ons that s/c vg33 will be a tq. monster.

I disagree with Abmobil's opinion on the power. I have the exact same truck (except mine's 2wd), and I love the acceleration on this truck! Bought mine about three months ago with 40,000 miles on it for $17000 USD from a Toyota dealer (I went to look at a Tacoma they had and liked this better!). I don't know much about the repair record or any recalls on these trucks, but I personally love this truck! I've had no issues with it since I bought it and it looks really sweet! Gas mileage is not great, but it's a truck, not much you can do (except add a tonneau like I did). Two thumbs up, here!
