I currently have the 4.3 ratio and did the calculations and with 40 inch tires i would need 5.9 gears so the extra gearing in the rockwells would help make up for some of the weight right?

My 4x4 guy says you should be fine. He's seen some 80's 'Yotas with the 22R running 48's with 2 1/2 rockwells. Double up your transfer cases, no worries at all then. You could say goodbye to highway driving though.

TV's Stacey David ( Official site of Stacey David's Gearz | home ) used Rockwell's in his awesome Sgt. Rock project truck. I think I recall him saying that he had to go to hydraulic steering as a result, hence j_wilson315's probable reason for the end of highway driving -- Stacey said that hydraulic steering is illegal in most states.
He bought his Rockwells at Memphis Equipment ( Military vehicles, army surplus vehicles for sale - Memphis Equipment )

My buddy is running hydraulic steering on his ranger with rockwells. Forgot to add that. He said it was alot easier to go that route than try to fab up brackets.
