While waiting on my UCAs to get here from PRG, I decided to see what it would take to stuff my BFGoodric Mud Terrain T/A KM2 Tires in front before the UCAs get here...
The tires are LT285/70R17/D (33x11.22-17)

To get these to fit with stock front suspension without rubbing, you'll need to remove the the front fender wells and trim a little off of the rear side of the fender:
The tires now make it thru their full range of flex and turn without rubbing.
The picture of the tire stuffed up also shows why going much bigger than 33's would require more aggressive trimming of the metal fenders:
Note: in the picture below, the bump-stop is about 1/2" from hitting, but it does make the full travel without rubbing.
Also on the topic of gearing: going to the bigger tires didn't have nearly as big a hit on acceleration or climbing hills as many posts in here would have you believe. I have a rather steep driveway that I was still able to walk up in 1st gear in 4-Lo without putting my foot on the gas pedal, and I started while already on the incline and at a dead stop.
I'll re-check this tomorrow on some more legitimate off-road hill climbs tomorrow... but so far I don't see gearing as being an issue at all with these tires.
PS: Non-MT tires might not "require" removing the inner fender liner, but the lugs on these MTs were grabbing the outter rear bottom corner, so I opted to yank the liners.
