Finally re-located from OC and I'm gonna need to get a trail run on the calendar soon. Who's out there and, more importantly, who's up for some wheeling?!
I'm also game for an MTB ride, though it'll have to be an early start this time of year haha! I usually ride out in Blue Diamond area but I'm always on the lookout for somewhere new to ride.
May not have any choice if I want to wheel with others and nobody out here wants to wheel haha!
But yes, I'll still be in for some runs with the SoCal peeps when something comes up that works in the old schedule. Still planning on doing the MTN Rendezvous again too as long as timing works. Besides, I can't wait to check out your newly t-swapped rig in the not too distant future.
I've also already started planning an overland trip to Dumont dunes from Vegas so maybe I can get some interest for that once I get it planned out.
I've never been out there but always wanted to check it out. Looks like a couple of pretty massive bowls from the sat pix. My CR500 should be the perfect tool for the job : ) Obviously not Glamis sized area but plenty of soft stuff none the less surrounded with the typical SW desert scape. Can't beat sand and rocks in the same place : )
Kinda like Superstition with more sand I imagine. I'll keep ya posted on that trip and I'll keep an eye out for anything I might be able to pull off from you guys too ; )
Yeah, looking forward to hearing about the audio goodies from your buddy!
Cool, I just wanna get out and see some of the local areas. I'm pretty sure there are some bigger rocks up here in the NW Vegas area where my place is (out near the gun range/Tule Springs) so I'll be checking that out too. Also interested in finding a fire road I've heard about behind Tule Springs Park that supposedly runs out past Mt Charleston. I'll be doing some satellite scouting to see if I can locate that and I'll go see where that goes. If it looks like fun I'll post up and see who's interested.
Thanks for chiming in ; )
Leave from Primm, follow the power line rd across to the second paved rd. There are some gotchas, and wash outs that will eat your truck, but as long as you keep your head popped out, 3 hour tour. Last time I ran it, had to wait for 25 bikes going the other way. First time we did it there were a bunch of bikes going the same direction we were, They told us how to get across to Baker.
I was planning on something slightly more adventurous. I'm going to take off from much farther north off of NV 160 and head south paralleling the Old Spanish Hwy and then cutting across on Mesquite Valley Rd into the washes. Looks like some fun little sections through some of the tighter washes on the satellite photos so should be a full day fun fest
My truck is not ready for offroad yet. Still waiting on the lift and I still have to do the air locker. I've been going to Dumont for years with my ATV, I would ride my ATV to comp hill and race or whatever but I was never able to bring my truck to comp hill. Between camp and comp hill there is a small dune, maybe only 3 feet tall, but it's 50 foot across. Might as well be wall to a 2wd truck with an open diff.
No worries. We can come up with a 2x friendly run if you're interested.
And you'd be amazed if I showed you some of the pix of my old 2x Glamis truck. Of course it had a rear locker and paddles and 400 HP but not too many places it wouldn't go. Just takes good driving technique and good line choice for the most part ; )
There are a few guys here with 4 cyl 2xs that run dunes a lot. Also helps to have a 4x buddy with a long strap along just in case haha!
Yea it's my hope that with the tires aired down and the diff lock it MIGHT even be able to climb up Banshee hilll at least half way. I'd love to get a picture of my truck on banshee watching the races.
Yeah, I always wanted to get my 2x to the top of Olds hill out at Glamis. Finally happened when I put the paddles on it and it turned out it was too easy so kind of a let down but cool none the less.
Sounds silly but don't forget to air the fronts down too. Makes a BIG difference, especially on a 2x
I am New here and am looking for some Desert trips(mild). Have 2014 pro 4x and have been running some Government roads here is Las Vegas and up on the mountain. Just got back from Rainbow Valley up south of Caliente.
Looking for more. I am out by aliante Casino.
You're right down the road from me then. I'm over by Floyd Lamb/Tule Springs park. I'll hit you up to go explore some fire roads out here once I get some crap unpacked at the house
Yeah, I wanna check it out when you get it done. I keep kicking around the idea of upgrading the stereo but the RF system isn't that bad and I really want to keep my nav and steering wheel controls so I need to research what I could do to it.
BTW, don't know if you saw the thread but I'm selling my stock Pro-4 skids if you want some low budget protection. Hit me up if you're interested, I'll dump em cheap for a local pick up ; )
The wife found out yesterday that she will not be transferred to Vegas so I guess I am out. We were both looking forward to the change, but something happened and the position her boss wanted her for is not going to be created so we are stuck in the Bay area for the foreseeable future. Time for me to look for a more challenging job, the one I am doing now has become boring.....
Ah, was wondering what you were doing out here a couple weeks ago. Figured you had a stop over or something. Well, hit me up next time you're in the area and we'll hook up for a drink or something
Yeah, I may just upgrade the speakers and amp and leave the HU. Would be nice to get some midrange tuning (since Nissan inexplicably deleted that function on the new nav units : / ) but not at the expense of my stock controls. Maybe I'll get an electronic cross over and tune the mids that way.
The stock skid coverage isn't that bad. They are obviously not as sturdy as aftermarket plate steel skids but the stock stamped ones are good enough to take a hit that would kill your tank, t-case, radiator or oil pan. And they are a SH!T TON lighter than Shrock or Hefty skids haha! Only one I haven't swapped out yet is the oil pan skid as I'm waiting on my final choice of DB lift kits to see what I'm going to do about that one. But the rest are just sitting in the garage. I'll PM you with details.
Cool, I'll go scout it first then : )
Give me a reason to get the truck dirty and have a cold one at a unique watering hole, two of my favorite past times
Well, if you wanted to start at the bar and head north you'd be fine in a 2x. If you wanna head south from 160 and end at the bar you're in for a challenge. There is one pretty steep hill with questionable traction. It'd be tough on a 2x even with a seasoned driver and MTs. I tested the first, steepest section in 2x and I could make it but it would take some serious finesse to get all the way up. Not much of a chance without the strap on street tires or even worn ATs. The rest is pretty easily done with a 2x. I think there is another route that kicks off of the 160 a bit further west that I'll likely check out in the next week or so just to see what it offers. I think it may go around the big hill so I'll let ya know.
I did check out a couple of off shoots from the main trail while I was out there and looks to be some more adventurous sections available : )
Anyone game to play wingman on the next exploratory mission?? Would recommend skids and a willingness to accept the possibility of some back country bush stripes
I'll post up some pix of today's run and the super cool 100 yr old bar in Goodsprings tomorrow
I was up in the muddy mountains 35 miles north of Las Vegas. Took Buffington Spring road all the way across the mountains to North Shore road, about 40 miles . Some of the washes were pretty ruff, but it's all very passable. Some really good rock formations across there. I also found some washes I haven't been up, will try those later this year.
Is that north on the 95 or on the 15? Sounds like fun! I'll be scouting the areas north of me in the coming weeks hoping to find some rocks to play on : )
North on I15 and take exit 75, (about 30 miles from the I15/215 intersection) towards Fire Valley. About 3 miles the road curves to the left and a sign says Muddy Mountains. Just go straight and the road turns to dirt. Follow it about 3 miles and you will see a sign, and the fun begins. It shows up well on Google Earth satellite. On the other side, some of the washes are pretty fine and soft, but you shouldn't have any trouble. One note; it takes you into the Lake Mead Area, but if you turn around and come out the way you came in there are no entrance charges.
I have several but my fav is a Santa Cruz Nomad (the model name is just a coincidence btw). It's pretty much overkill for anything out here but the DH run at Bootleg Canyon but I'll take the weight penalty for the bottomless ride most of the time
Anybody up for a trip around the Blue Diamond loop really early some time this week or this weekend?
I'm also up for a night ride out here around Tule Springs area pretty much any time. In fact I'm out there several night a week.
Also gonna be running Wheeler Pass in the truck later this week if anyone's up for that. I'm open any day except tuesday.
I know. He got real busy, even had to call in some back up. Jason Ewing from GAS and Pimp My Ride is there helping him. I might end up with a fish tank and popcorn maker in my truck, lol.
