I have a 2009 Frontier XE with 118,000 miles. I purchased it new. I am having trouble with a whining noise in my 5 speed manual. It does not do it when the clutch is pressed down as when you are getting ready to shift. As soon as you let up it starts to whine again. I checked the oil level and it started to run out when I pulled the plug. after I drive it and then stop to check the noise it seems to be a lot quieter and almost normal.
I read where the older frontiers didn't have the oil plug in the right place and it you had to jack truck up on its side and then fill transmission case to get the proper fill level. Would that apply to a 2009.
One person suggested this could be a carrier bearing but I believe that is at the rear end of the transmission and would not be turning when truck is in netural and that is when i am checking for the noise.
This probably not in the right thread but I will try it anyway.
