Mainiac with a new Frontier

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I just took delivery of a 2008 Nismo Frontier with lots of bells and whistles. Trying to learn how to use them all.
I had a 4WD 1998 Tacoma, with 74K miles on it, that was in great condition but with a terminally rotted out frame.
I hated to part with the Tacoma, but the Frontier has given me a new love. It is a very nice truck.
I doubt I will be doing any mods like I have been reading about on this site. Not sure what I would do to improve this truck. So far it seems about perfect!
Thanks again for the welcome. I will be reading and questioning along the way.
John

Sure, you say you won't mod anything . . riiiiiiiiight.
That's what they all say before they spend time on here.

Anyway, welcome to the board.

Mass to Maine

StormFrontier, I went the other way. Originally from Massachusetts. Born in Boston City Hospital. Grew up in Dedham Mass, went to the Univ of Mass.
Been in Maine since 1972. No desire to go back. Thanks for the response.

Oh, and by the way John, I came out of a 1998 extended cab 4x4 V6 SR5 TRD package Taco that I bought brand new. It was/is in excellent condition, I'm a little obsessive about vehicle care. I sold it with 66,000 miles on it to a friend of mine that wanted an extra vehicle to tow his jet skis around with.

2 weeks after he bought it from me the Tacoma rusted frame information surfaced on the net and news. He isn't upset about it, because he knows I didn't know anything about it before selling him my truck. The other thing about it is, obviously it would put more money in his pocket then what he started out with before buying my old truck. But talk about bad timing.

He's actually hoping the frame is good. He doesn't want the hassle of having to find another truck.

I just received the Toyota bulletin about the frame last week (finally) and gave it to him. As of now, he hasn't had it in to have the frame checked.

I really loved my Taco, it was very good to me. In 66,000 miles all I ever had to do to her is tires and a battery.

My family has grown so a crew cab was a must. I really love my Fronty too. Especially the power this has compared to the Taco (265hp+ compared to 190hp in the Taco).

ToddG, Toyota paid me $15300 for my Tacoma. That's 1 1/2 times the retail excellent value of the truck with 74K on it. It was a loaded vehicle. If I had tried to sell the truck by private sale it probably was worth somewhere in the range of $7-8K; so the Toyota price was salve for my loosing a truck I loved. It allowed me to buy the Frontier.

Yep, I know all about the $$ side of it.

My bet is that my truck is perfectly fine.
Did I mention I'm a little obsessive about car care, I know every inch of that truck inside and out.

This is what my wife said when I told her about the Toyota frames rusting: "Not your truck, the way you take care of it your frame could never be rusted out"

I liked her response but had to point out that it is still a possibility that the frame was rusted from the inside out, etc, etc. I hope not but who knows?

Besides, the percent of affected frames (95-00) I heard was running like 6-7%.
Small percentage, but big numbers for Toyota. You have to admire them stepping up though.
