looking to buy one kinda just fell out of the car phase and need something that can handel all weather plus i feel like a hitman when i have to put a deer in the trunk of my G35 lol
Questions i see this coolant/transmission issue seems to be huge from what i read, and ive been looking for an 06 to 09 model is there a way to avoid it? Will aftermarket patlrts stop the issue? Ive tried doing the reading but some threads are 30 plus pages
Welcome to the forum. Those threads on cross contamination have all the info you'll need in the first page or two. The rest is by paranoid owners who didn't bother to read the first page or two. So if you'll read the first page or two, you'll be fine.
I'll give you a brief synopsis, the issue affected the 05-10 model years. The issue is not huge. It only affected a small percentage of vehicles built during that time. Cross contamination is not new. It can happen to any vehicle with an automatic transmission that has a cooler in the bottom of the radiator. Either replacing the radiator or doing the workaround (bypass) will prevent cross contamination from occurring. Or buying a vehicle with a manual transmission is also an option, no cross contamination there.
What makes the '09 so special? Per Nissan the cross contamination issue covers the 05-10 model years. They even extended the warranty on the radiator of the vehicles built during those years.
Answers like yours are why those threads on cross contamination are 30+ pages long. Please just stick to the facts and leave speculation and guessing out of the equation. Thanks!
Consumer Reports shows the Frontier '08 model years as having above average reliablility (on average) than other model years on and after '05-'10. these results are gleaned from many owner reports of maintenance and repair costs over a period of years. other years from 06 thru '10 were rated as average on reliability....which is not a negative. I have an '08 4cylinder with manual tranny and it has not had any mechanical issues in 6.5 years of ownership at 59,000 miles. ....but its a 4cylinder and 2wd (I don't take it off road though). If I were you and I was planning on going off road then I would look for a 6cylinder with manual tranny 6 speed with 4wd. but that's just me preferring a manual tranny.
Also keep in mind that an 05-09 truck is now 5 to 9 years old and more than likely the cross contamination would have already happened if it was going to happen.
My view on buying an older vehicle is the fact that it is old and is still on road means that particular vehicle was one of the better built ones. the "monday morning" or "friday afternoon" vehicles are already long retired to the scrapyard.
Yep radiator prone along with timing guides....highly probable than not....as a matter of fact I just had my 07 frontier done with 55k on it....radiator didn't mix but warranty was running out and guides were gone.....new aftermarket radiator put in along with guides and both chains....have pictures and video documentation of the job....
