2005 Frontier Crew Cab LE

Hi all fellow Frontier enthusiasts! I am new to this website because I'm itching to add performance parts to my Frontier for some more HP. I am really new to this modification thing and don't really have any experience. I would appreciate any ideas on what types of performance parts are the best for the value. I am thinking of an air intake systems and a performance muffler. Any brands or specific part reccommendations?

Also, I am not a mechanic and will probably have to pay for installation. Does anyone know what type of auto shop to take performance parts to for install? Also, any estimates on what labor usually costs for these types of installations?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate your help and can't wait to get charged-up!

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the response. I probably could get away with installing an air intake system with some wrenches and drivers, but the Gibson exhaust would probably require welding, which I have no tools or experience for. I'll probably have to take that to a muffler shop.

Also, I've been researching different air intake systems to increase my HP by the most. Which of these cold-air intake systems provide the greatest power boost:

K&N 63 Series Aircharger Kits (boasts 14 HP increase on Frontier) $235
afe Magnum FORCE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake System (boasts 11 HP increase) $220
Volant Truck Kits W/Box (boasts up to 18 HP increase) $310

Thanks a ton!

I put in the K&N 63 series CAI. I love it. Wow, where did you find it for $235, I paid $276 for mine.

Easy installation, I did a short write up here.

K&N Air Intake Filter

http://www.autoanything.com/products...low_intake_kit

Here's were I found it for $235.

That looks great man! I really like it. Looks like the K&N is better than the Volant because the opening of the intake to the engine is bigger than the Volant model. However, the Volant is legal in all 50 states for emissions. I live in blue collar oregon anyway, so who cares? (joke) How much HP increase did you get, was it the 14 as advertised?

The installation looked a bit troublesome, how much do you think an automechanic would charge to install?

Thanks.

What is a helix tbs? Is it needed for the K&N air intake?

That doesn't look like the kit for the '05 Frontier with V6 4.0L engine.

The part # should be 63-6014.

The install is easy, really. It took me 2 hours because I didn't do anything in advance. Just putting the foam padding around the cold air box took 1 hour because of trying to bend the metal to 90 degree turns.

A tbs is a throttle body spacer. I bought the Helix design because it was cheaper and the original manufacturer. And no it is not necessary. It is supposed to give the vehicle a little better mid-range power. I really didn't notice any change. Right now, I don't think it is necessary.

RE: K&N

Yes, that is the part number, they just have a sample part that is generic for all the air intake systems.

I guess I'll have to call the local mechanic because I have no tools or experience with this field of machinery.

Thanks a lot for your input, it is very helpful. What other intakes did you consider before purchasing the K&N?
