I drive highway and city, on not so nice roads, so it is like i am off road constantly driving through canton. Also, i do drive "offroad". As in across very muddy pitches.
I live in MD so we go from the 100s in the summer to the teens and below in the winter. We have snow and ice, rain, and dry days. I want a tire that looks beefy, will last a while, but also smooth.
So any suggestions would be appreciated

My first suggestion would be the
BFG KM2 These are excellent tires that will get you though the mud when you need them to. They will take a beating off road and yet they still ride smooth on the road and are relatively quiet for a Mud tire on the highway. click on "Take the Virtual Tour" for a video spotlight.
If this is a little too aggressive for you I would also suggest looking into the
Nitto Terra Grappler. These are great AT tires. They won't get you though as thick of mud as the Km2 will but they will be able to get you though most off roading. The Terra Grappler is also quieter on the road and should last longer, if properly maintained.
Lastly, I would also suggest looking at the new
Hankook RF10. This is an aggressive All Terrain that just hit the market. They are heavily sipped for better winter control, will ride smooth and again should last a little longer than the KM2.
