4.5" backspacing is good for lifted applications. The outer lip of a 17x9 with a 4.5"BS will sit out about 2.5" further than where the stock 17x7.5 option sits or 2.75" further than the stock 16x7 option.

Nothing to shake a stick at, thats for sure. I'd love to lift my wifes Frontier but she puts over 100miles a day on it and it just doesn't make sence to do it right now. I will live through you. Let me know if we can help you more with your wheels and tires.

Ok, got a few questions.
For a '07 CrewCab SE, daily driver, doesn't go offroad, 60/40 (city/highway), and these are for summer driving (live in Wis, so yes there is a difference, lol). Looking at the oh-so-popular MB Predators. Still not sure as to which size 18x8.5 or 20x8.5. Just curious with a 8.5 rim, would you suggest staying with a 265 width, or is 285 going to be ok? Sorry truck tire sizes aren't my thing, more of a car guy. I do know that if it was 18x8.5; the options would be 265/60-18 or 285/55-18. Or if it was 20x8.5; the options would be 265/50-20 or 285/45-20. Correct? (General rule of thumb is for every inch bigger in rim size, sidewall size goes down 5, and for every 20mm in width bigger sidewall goes down 5.) Just curious on what you would suggest for rim/tire size? 18 w/ 265, 18 w/ 285, 20 w/ 265, or 20 w/ 285? As I said, daily driver, more city than highway, city streets are alright, no pot holes, just some bumps and uneven surfaces. Also, I am an aggressize driver and like to have fun in the corners, another reason for upgrading. Fuel economy plays in, but not by much; if going by that I'm guess 18 w/ 265, less drag/weight right? I'm a autoX and drifting guy, so big sidewalls aren't my thing, lol. But I love my Frontier and just want to make it look, ride and feel nicer. Also, do you have any info on the weight of the MB Predators? Just curious. Finally, do the Predators require tuner-style lugs for mounting them? Or are the lug nut holes big enough to use OEM lug nuts? Thanks, Jay |

First, the technical stuff. Weights 18x8.5 Predator weighs about 27.5lbsTire Recommendations 18" size options for 18x8.5 wheels on 07 Frontier SE: 265/60R18*285/55R18 would be a good size and you have calculated it correctly, however there are very few manufactures that build this size and your vehicle has enough clearance to safely run the 285/60R18. 20" size recommendation for 20x8.5 wheels on 07 Frontier SE: 285/50R20*The 8.5" widths can safely run a 285mm wide tire, see specific Tire manufactures web site to verify. Lug nuts Although your OE hardware may fit, we recommend always replacing your lug hardware when replacing your wheels. Tire size Calculator Reference for tire sizes and effects on speedometer readings. Last, the less technical, yet still technical stuff: Suggestions and recommendations: For city and highway driving, if you decide on the 18" wheels, look at the Falken brand of tires. Both the STZ04 and the STZ01 would be good tires for you. They are high performance highway/ street tires that, if you drive as aggressive as you say, will hold up well for you for performance, ride and comfort. They also won't kill your pocket. ( 285/60R18 ) If you decide on the 20's. The Continental ContiCrossContact UHP would fit your needs well. It has received mixed reviews but for your wants and needs it would be a great tire for you. In this size they are extra loaded which means they have a reinforced side wall. This will help the tires response in corning by keeping the tread flat on the road. It also has nice, wide tread groves to keep the tire cool and quite on the road and the asymmetrical design of the tread ensures the correct type of tread targets the tire zones that need it most. (ie. bigger broader thread blocks on the outside for performance cornering, unbroken band of rubber in the middle for steering, Angled tread groves toward the inside for water removal and smaller more squared blocks in the inside for bite). ^^ I would like to know this too.
On a side note, I'm in the midst of looking for new tires for my truck. I drive mostly 70/30 highway vs. city, and no real off roading, but I will be traveling dirt and gravel roads in the mountains for fishing occasionally. I've been reading reviews and personal experiences on all season tires in a 245/75/16, including the Michelin LTX M/S and the LTX A/T 2 and the Goodyear Silent Armor's. My desire is to keep a quiet, stable ride with good handling characteristics but able to handle mild winters. MPG's are important to me, which scares me away from the Goodyear Silent Armor's because of their weight.. could you maybe steer me in the right direction? Great info, Thank you. You have done a good job of narrowing it down already. For your driving and what you want the Michelin AT2 and the LTX M/S are great choices. These two tires are very similar, the differences are there but are pretty subtle. First, both tires will ride smooth and both tires have the same treadware rating or UTQG rating. This rating indicates how soft or hard a tire is. Generally speaking higher ratings = harder tires. Harder tires = longer life. Since these two both have a 500 UTQG and are built by the same manufacture, they should last very close to the same amount of time. Small differences in tread design should make the LTX M/S last a hair longer. AT2 The AT2 is a moderate off-road Tire. If you are leaning toward wanting a little better weather and off-road capabilities go with the AT2. This tire is sipped more than the M/S for better off-road and winter weather bite. It has wider water channels on the outside to increase its wet traction as well. The AT/2 has a little more aggressive tread design making it a more well rounded tire for truck and SUV drivers that drive off-road in comparison to the M/S. LTX M/S If you are wanting a slightly longer lasting, more highway oriented tire the LTX M/S would be a great tire for you. These are at the top of the list for highway SUV and Truck tires for ride quality and highway performance. They ride very smooth, they are very quiet and they will still handle most of the gravel and dirt roads you visit when fishing. (unless they are muddy) The LTX M/S, like the AT2 is sipped for bite and still has good water channels to reduce hydroplaning. Note: In looking at these tires in the 245/75-16 there are P-metric versions and LT versions. When you purchase, buy the P-Metric version (indicated with "P" before the size), the LT version are heavy duty versions of the tires and will be stiffer. Unless you are consistantly towing a heavy load, these aren't necessary for your Frontier.

I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier King Cab LE, 4X4, V6. I have a two inch lift kit, taller springs up front and taller shackles in the back. Currently have 265/65R17 on stock LE rims. I do about 50/50 highway/city. Once a month I go camping and mild offroading, mostly sandy trails and some river rocks. I think these tires measure about 31"? I really don't like the look of the small sidewall and would like a tire of about 33". I am pretty sure they won't rub or anything. I have no clue what size to get and am not a big fan of aftermarket rims. Can you advise?
Thanks Jay
