What is the difference between the Nismo m226 and the 6m m226?

Hey Everyone,

I am just wondering what is the difference between the Nismo Locked m226 and the 6m m226?

I know the Nismo has the e-locker so please don't be smart and say one is locked.

I also know the gearing is different so don't just post, they have different gearing.

The main point of this is to find out which m226 has the 4 bolt connection for the driveshaft. I think it is a 6m Nismo but I am not sure.

Also, what is the difference in gears. I remember reading that the Nismo m226 had to have some extra clearancing done inside the diff to help make room but has resulted in a weaker diff. Is this true?

Also, will a TruTrac fit in the Nismo m226 or will it just be the 6m m226? I know there has been atleast one X and one Titan that blew-up their locker and swapped in a TT but did they have to do anything special for this?

I alm looking into doing an m226 with either 3.54 or 3.69 gears and a TT when I hit ~60k. I am trying to plan this on the cheap. I am hoping that if a Nismo Axle will work, I can get one that blew-up the spiders and the ring/pinion are fine. I then can get a local guy to swap in a TT for 150 bucks.

Also, is it the speed sensors or ABS lines that need to be replaced when going from a c200 to a m226?

need to replace the speed sensors.
There is a little machining done on the housing for the wiring for the nismo rear.
The m226 is not all that, a few of us have spun the axle tubes.
If you could find a locking carrier for the c200 you may be better off.

9" out of a 77 bronco is the right width if you want something a little stronger. $108 wild wednesdays at pick&pull.

Actually, 3.69's are available in both (Nismo KC 6-spd or SE CC 6-spd).

Not many options for 3.54's and 3.69's for sure though. I'm guessing 3.54's come in SE KC 6-spd?

LSD not worth it to me, does nothing in the woods.

Yep. 2x4 and 4x4.

Dubie I'm pretty sure the housings are all the same, besides the obvious hole and trimmings for the locker.

and your going to hate 3.69's on the highway with stock tires. I do 2750RPM at 85 and thats with 32's. You with 31's and the lower overdrive in the auto? probably 3k

I am mainly looking for a LSD for when I go to the track. I thought the 9" only worked on the 6m for some reason, is this true?

But LSD is nice on the track and it keeps the stock looks. I just don't want to get a true locker when and if it ever comes out because I don't want to have to run an air supply for it and have to remember to flip the switch all the time.

I am hoping that when i reach this swap, the truck will be my secondary vehicle anyway. Plus, how bad can it be on the hwy? I get 22 now, I would hope that I would atleast get 17 and that would be fine for me.

easy solution= do the 6spd swap at the same time

in all seriousness tho, i'd say like IYF said, probably the same except for the speed sensors and the wiring for the locker.
